Here is a pretty nice old International Harvester 4hp Famous hit and miss gas engine. It is fresh from an old collection where it lived for many years. It is in good shape for it’s age but does have some common minor issues that Famous engines usually have. It has a repair on the bottom of the head and on the exhaust flange that could be dressed down and look good. There is a braze on the fuel pump link that could also be hidden. There is a hole in the top of the hopper which doesn’t affect anything but is there and needs to be pointed out. The cam gear has some cracks in it (none on the diameter) but is still tight on the cam shaft and has run like this for many years. The engine turns over nicely with great compression and everything seems to move and function as it should. The flywheels run true and the engines runs on gas in the bowl of the mixer. There is very little wear on the gearing or the main bearings. It is an earlier engine with the IHC name cast in the side of the hopper. It has the original belt pulley and serial tag on it. It sits on some nice oak skids that are about the right length to add the seat/battery box correct for the Famous engines. It’s not a perfect engine but could be perfect with just a little elbow grease and a few additions. It would be a fine addition to your hit and miss engine collection or International Harvester Famous lineup. The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it.
