This was extremely well-made of mostly heavy cast-iron and steel by the WF + John Barnes and Company of Rockford Illinois and is pictured in their 1885 Catalog (please see my last photo). A very interesting and unusual design… Especially with the hanging counterweights… Uncertain if this is the #1 or the #2 Press as I can only find a small brass tag stamped “125″ and I estimate its weight at approx. 300 to 350 lbs. The previous owner stated it was found in an ancient southern Indiana Ford Dealership many years ago. Fresh from the estate of a longtime Steam, Hit & Miss Stationary Engine and Ford model A T collector. Great item for your antique engine, old Shop Press or early WF Barnes Tool collection.
