Very nice original early style ignitor fired 3hp Fairbanks Morse Z throttle governed engine. Engine seems to have very little wear as it has great compression and the gears and bearing show very little wear. There is an old repair on the head which could likely be dressed down but otherwise no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. It is missing the magneto but could easily be run with a battery and coil. It will need a gas tank. It has a great amount of original paint on it and even a shop number on the flywheel as can be seen. I can deliver for free (or a cold beverage) to Baraboo, WI, Portland, IN, or Coolspring, PA, later this year. It can stay here as long as needed as long as it’s paid for. I can load it for you. Here is a pretty nice old 1 1/2hp John Lauson Model W hit and miss gas engine. It is fresh from an old collection where it lived for many years. It is in great shape with no cracks, breaks or repairs other than an old repair on the ignitor trip block and part of the serial tag missing. It turns over nicely with good compression. There seems to be very little wear on the gearing or in the bearings. It has a very unique fuel mixer or carburetor on it which was only on the earliest Model W engines. It has the original pulley and crankguard on it. It is also ignitor fired which makes it a bit unusual. It has the original gas tank in between the original skids. I think there’s a good amount of original paint under the repaint if you’d choose to unrestore the engine. I think with some fresh gas and a battery and coil this engine would fire right up. It would be a fine addition to your early hit and miss engine collection or Lauson display. The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it. This engine has been restored, with a quick brush on paint job, I can tell for sure, there is a lot of original paint under the red paint job. It is mounted on a nice set of skids. The engine is all complete including the original muffler and pulley, and correct brass “tea pot” carburetor. The only weld I can find on the engine is on the fuel pump plunger arm, (see picture where weld is circled). Compression is very good, and the engine is one of the easiest starting you could hope to ask for. Both flywheels have the Ideal name cast into them. These early ignitor fired Ideals, are very few and far between. It has the original brass nameplate. Good hitting, long coasting engine, that you definitely don’t see every day! Fuel pump works great, gets the gas right up to the carburetor with no trouble. If your looking for a hard to find engine to add to your collection, here it is, just needs a new home and a show to take it to. Comes with the starting crank you see me using in the video. The governor yoke is broke and the weights are missing, also the pot metal on the throttle butterfly is no good. Other than those things, this engine looks to be in very nice shape. The ignitor trip assembly with the eccentric arm that rides on the camshaft IS INCLUDED it’s just not on the engine, there wasn’t one on it when I bought it, but I’m including one from my parts supply (see picture). Original muffler, pulley, magneto, ignitor, crankcase breather, fuel pump, etc… Are all there and all look to be in really good shape, even the gas tank looks solid! The engine is stuck so it will need some work to get running again. Free storage for up to 6 months. This engine will be a fun, easy project for a beginner, or anybody! Feel free to ask questions!
