John Deere Power Unit W-111 Hit and Miss Engine Antique Engine

This Model W power unit is serial number 1048, making it the 47th unit produced. It was manufactured in 1932 and has the early style cast iron oil filter and early skid base. It is in great condition and shows very little use by the original owner. I bought it at an estate sale and tore it down to make needed repairs. The barrels were not harmed and were honed. The rings were in great condition and were cleaned and restacked. I replaced all valves and lapped the seats. I started it last week and let it run for an hour. The exhaust shows only vapor and it sounds great. Check out others for sale and you wont find one like this. It is missing the horse hair air filter element. I forgot to mention that the barrel has a weld repair to the top. It looks like it may have been a stress crack about 9 long. It runs under the air cleaner from the barrel mounting bolts to the exhaust manifold bolts. It is small in width and does not leak. I will include another barrel with the sale. I felt that the original 1932 casting date was more important that the repair. I have included 2 pictures of the repair. Here is a pretty decent old 2-Cylinder Leroi power unit. This style engine was possibly used in some of the earlier smaller tractors. On the original skids with the original old style radiator. Engine turns over as it should. Radiator looks pretty good other than one hole that may or may not need attention. Extensive weld repair on crankcase many moons ago that looks to have survived quite well. The manifold and original muffler look to be in good shape. This would be a great power plant for a homemade tractor or butt buggy build! I can be reached at 262 573 1931 if you’d like to talk about it. The pictures tell the story. You push the outer wheel in and it locks the bigger flywheel onto the shaft to start what ever is belted to the flywheel. This thing is very interesting and well made. And then picks it up in person. Fuller & Johnson model BCL Hit miss Throttler Stationary Power Unit Engine

Here is an interesting 4 cylinder engine that isn’t seen too often. It’s a Fuller & Johnson model BCL 6 to10hp industrial power unit of which only 1739 were ever made. The L stands for left hand rotation. With a serial number of 500846 it would of been made later in 1929 which is the first year of production. This one has the electric start option with generator and distributor instead of the usual magneto and hand crank. It turns over and has some compression but I have not run it. The distributor cap is present and in great shape with what looks like the original plug wires. Steel dog house is fair with some dents and one top corner has rusted thru and needs patching but it is by no means unusable. The house has a nice large Dance Company tag and this engine was likely on one of their cement mixers. I have the radiator which also looks to be in good shape, there is no fuel tank or side panels. The large Twin Disc clutch works but the pressed steel pulley is dented. With some work this would make a nice engine. I will put this on a pallet and drop off to Fastenal at no charge.
