This is a very hard to find original Sumter AG rotary low tension magneto for a hit and miss or throttle governed gas engine. This is the largest of the Sumter line at the time and is a model AG. It stands about 8 1/2 inches tall! These were used on larger engines like Fairbanks N, Foos, Otto, John Lauson, International Harvester Famous, and other high quality engines. It is in excellent original condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of except for a hairline crack in the porcelain which won’t affect anything. It turns nicely with unbelievable magnetic pull and puts out a hot, blue spark. It mounts on a 2 x 3 inch rectangular bolt pattern and the threads are in excellent condition. It doesn’t appear to have been abused as you can see. It has very minor wear in the bearings. It has an original gear on it and also some green paint which leads me to believe it was originally on a large Fairbanks Morse N engine. These large Sumter magnetos are increasingly tough to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one don’t miss your chance on this one. It’s only the second AG magneto I’ve run across in all my travels. It will likely be a long time before another one turns up. It would also make a great spare on the shelf.
