This is a very nice and very hard to find original Sumter B 2-bar magneto for a hit and miss or throttle governed gas engine. It should fit many engines but please measure your engine to be sure it will work for you. It is in great shape with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of other than a very nicely done reproduction “porcelain” insulator made from Delrin. It mounts on a 2 inch square hole pattern and the threads in all of the holes are in great shape. It turns over very nicely with very little noticeable wear in the bearings. This magneto has been disassembled, cleaned, and has had the magnets recharged. It has a nice hot spark that is sure to run your engine if it is set up properly. The pictures tell the story. Here is a very nice Sumter AP low tension magneto. This mag appears to be in great original condition. It produces a very nice hot spark. Please take a look at the pictures and decide if you need it. SPECIAL NOTE: This is a low tension magneto, it is meant to work with an igniter and will not produce at spark that will jump an air gap. It will not work with a spark plug. The spark it produces can be observed by rubbing a wire from the terminal against the case of the mag while turning the shaft. It does have to be timed to the engine. 2″ x 3-1/8″ mounting pattern on the bottom. The mounting holes have perfect threads. No wear can be felt. The gear is about 2-1/4 in diameter and has 16 teeth. I think this mag is ready to start and run your engine. This is a heavy mag, it weighs about 20 lbs before any box or packing material. I think I list items very accurately but my opinion on condition may differ from yours. In my opinion this is a great magneto. If you have any questions about how to use it on your engine please ask. Very hard to find Sumter No. 14 rotary magneto as used on the headless Fairbanks Morse Z engines and a few others. Magneto is in excellent rebuilt condition and has no wear in the bearings as it has been bushed. It has very little wear on the gear as can be seen. The gear is part number DJ142 and is for the headless Z engine. This magneto would also work on the 3hp Z with ignitor ignition and rotary magneto behind the hopper but the gear would have to be changed. I believe it will also work for the Plugoscillator engines but the base of the magneto would need to be changed. It has very hot spark as I’ve checked it. It mounts with two holes 3 7/8 inches apart on center. It has has a nice Sumter name band on it and is ready to go to work on an engine or put on your shelf a spare. These Sumter 14 magnetos are quite tough to find especially in this condition so don’t miss your chance if you need one for any reason. Let the pictures be your guide. You’ll like it. For your consideration is an original Sumter Magneto for a Fairbanks Morse Plug Oscillator Hit Miss Stationary Engine. This is the style that uses the fork to trip the mag. This mag is HOT as in it has spark at the time of testing, this is verified in the last picture with me clipping a wire to the base and rotating the armature by hand (not a drill) touching the lead out and it produced the blue spark shown. The number on the base is 28356V. Here is a nice looking Sumter Model 12 low tension magneto. It produces a very nice spark but it has more than a normal amount of wear. It may work fine as is but it will probably need rebushed. This mag is commonly used for a Fairbanks Morse Headless hit and miss engine. It is missing its name tag or band but that will not hurt its operation in any way and those are easy to get as reproductions if you want one. The base show signs of deterioration but those are also available as reproductions. Please take a look at the pictures and decide if you need it. For questions 419 789 1159. 12 Low Tension Magneto. 2 hole mount – 3 3/4 center to center mount. Throws a nice blue spark. Nice original RARE partin good condition ready to use. Gear part # DJ 142. Gear has 30 teeth and 3 1/8 Diameter. I apologize for any inconvenience. Please feel free to call me with questions. This is an extremely hard to find Sumter Model B rotary magneto for an old hit and miss or throttle governed gas engine. These were commonly used on John Lauson engines from the factory as well as options on IHC Famous and Titans and some of the earlier Fairbanks Morse and Foos engines. It is fresh from an old collectors estate and is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind except for slight chip/crack in the porcelain leadout and two cracked magnets which have little or no affect on its performance. It mounts on a 2 inch square hole pattern and the mounting threads in the brass base are in excellent shape. It has almost no noticeable wear on the armature bearings. I charged the magnets and it has excellent magnetic pull and great snapping spark! I believe this magneto is ready to go to work on an engine!
