This is a 4hp John Lauson Frost King Hit Miss Engine. A picture is worth a thousand words, so I’ll keep the description short. I disassembled this engine for inspection and gave it a good cleaning, I’ve ran it for a few hours and tinkered with the springs to get it running slow and steady. It may run slower, but it seems to be happy right where it is. I’ve only found one superficial repair on the ignitor base, beyond that there are no welds, cracks, leaks, or hidden damage. The Sumter magneto works great, around 10 volts at low speeds, I rebuilt the ignitor with new mica, new springs, and a new pin. I have to guess the engine is about 1914 or 1915 or so… If someone can pinpoint the age please let me know. There’s nothing to hide on this engine, the video and pictures speak for themselves.
