Here is a very nice small gear pump that can be used for a variety of old gas engines and other purposes. It would look really good mounting on a small tank cooled engine for moving cooling water. This is a very nice original Tritt Acme flywheel driven friction drive dynamo or generator for ignition on an old flywheel type gas engine. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind that I can see or know of. It turns nicely with minimal bearing wear and the governor operates as it should. It has mild wear to the friction wheel. It motors up when hooked to a battery so it should make current to run your engine. It is about 5 x 8 1/2 x 6 inches tall overall. It mounts with two slots 4 1/8 inches apart on center. It should be ready to put on your engine or on your display shelf with the rest or your hit and miss engine accessories. This is a brand NEW ACME tag copied from an original engine tag. THIS IS AN ETCHED TAG AND HAS DEPTH. IT IS NOT A PRINTED TAG. I make these tags myself and take great pride and care to make sure this tag has the look and the feel of an original. Happy to say that this tag was made right here in the U. Made from 0.032 thick sheet brass. I use a process very similar to the way the original tags were made. You will be hard pressed to tell the difference in my tags and an original. This tag is ready to stamp with your engines’ specific information. Mounting holes are not drilled but they are clearly marked by the etching process. Depth of etch for this particular tag = 0.0045. (Typically original tags were etched to 0.004″ – 0.005″). This tag will fit engines with mounting holes center to center distance = 2.750. Jones engine or Acme Sucker Rod engine which are both pretty much the same thing. It appears to be in nice shape. I think the bolt for the drive may be new. The packing gland has a chip out of the one side. That could be fixed or it would work fine as is. Check out the pictures and see if you need it. If you measure from the base to the center of the mounting pin while the piston skirt is even with the packing gland that is 27. The piston is slightly under 2 in diameter. The pump is 10-5/8 tall measured from the bottom to the top of the packing gland stud. 1 pipe inlet and outlet. Mounts with 2 holes about 4-1/2 apart on center. 25 lbs actual weight before box and packing material. Thanks for looking at this listing! Up for sale is an Acme / Jones 16 HP (1897) oil field engine. It is a four cycle, Hit & Miss engine with Hot Tube ignition. This engine has been mechanically restored and is in nice running condition. It has good compression and starts fairly easily. My preference was to not cosmetically restore it because it is in decent shape. It has always been stored inside. I’ve owned this engine for about 25 years. This engine was made by the Acme Sucker Rod Co. Acme started making engines in 1895 and changed the name to S. Jones shortly after 1900. This engine has Acme serial number 408. At some time during its working career, the cylinder was changed out to a new Jones cylinder. The pictures include the Acme tag, the stamped Acme serial number and the Jones tag on the cylinder. I won’t be able to load or haul it, although it’s easy to move from it’s location. This is a 2 1/2hp hit miss engine tagged as the acme engine company from lansing michingan. It was actually built by rawleigh schryer of freeport illinois. It turns over and has decent compression. Mechanically it is in pretty good shape but does have some issues. The head has been welded and will need to be cleaned up. A nut has been welded to the mixer for needle valve to screw into. Part of the rocker arm mount flange has broken off – i do have the piece that broke out. Governor collar and detent roller are rather pitted from rust. Biggest issue is that all the poured in place babbitt bearings have been melted out. The mains now have babbitt inserts laying in the rough cast bearing pockets and are crudely shimmed with washers. Rod is the same way but has bronze inserts. This is poorly done and proper babbitt must be poured before the engine can really be run. I did get it to pop a few times by squirting gas in the mixer but didn’t want to chance things anymore than that. I’ve not had this engine apart or been further into it other than quickly cleaning the ignitor. Yes this engine needs work but i don’t think it will be a difficult project. Look at all the photos very carefully and feel free to ask questions. Or certified cheque unless prior arrangements are made. Unusual hit miss engine. Vintage indian motorcycle parts. I’ll bolt it to a pallet and drop off at my winston-salem store free of charge. $75 will get the engine fully enclosed in a strong crate.
