Up for sale is an Acme / Jones 16 HP (1897) oil field engine. It is a four cycle, Hit & Miss engine with Hot Tube ignition. This engine has been mechanically restored and is in nice running condition. It has good compression and starts fairly easily. My preference was to not cosmetically restore it because it is in decent shape. It has always been stored inside. I’ve owned this engine for about 25 years. This engine was made by the Acme Sucker Rod Co. Acme started making engines in 1895 and changed the name to S. Jones shortly after 1900. This engine has Acme serial number 408. At some time during its working career, the cylinder was changed out to a new Jones cylinder. The pictures include the Acme tag, the stamped Acme serial number and the Jones tag on the cylinder. I won’t be able to load or haul it, although it’s easy to move from it’s location.
