RARE 1902 STOVER 4 HP ANTIQUE GAS ENGINE, 1st year Stover engine with square push rod. Only 2 documented square push rod horizontal engines exist, with this example the most complete original. Original square headed bolts on cylinder base, back water jacket plate, timing gear bracket. Nicely embossed Stover on cylinder. I carefully cleaned all the parts of this engine and gave it a stove black finish. No serial numbers were discovered except a #2 was stamped on the rod, wrist pin brass bearings and the connecting rod. There was no evidence where a pinhole or screw hole would have held a name plate. Flywheel, base and cylinder are perfect with no cracks, breaks or welds. Cylinder head has 2 repaired freeze cracks welded and smoothed down. Timing gear has been repaired but is perfectly done and runs true. A period riveted blacksmith repair was done on the governor latch out arm and looks good. A later Stover ignitor is on engine, the original ignitor block will go with engine. The original was converted to spark plug so it will need some work. Cylinder oiler and compression release are original to engine. Original beaded pipe fittings on fuel lines, exhaust pipe and beaded elbow original to engine. Engine sits on black walnut runners, I last ran this engine 3 years ago at a show and it started and ran well except for a small water leak on the bottom of head gasket. A sealer would probably fix it but that is up the the new owner. This engine has been in the collection since the 1970′s and has never been offered for sale. Collectors have expressed interest in purchasing it over the years so now is your chance to acquire one of the most desirable of Stover engines. A very nice engine with historical qualities. The reserve price will not be revealed but is in line with such a rare engine. Flywheels 36 1/2 dia. 2 1/2″ across face, 5″ bore 10 stroke.
