It was 12-13 years ago. I was driving the backroads, either on a Saturday or after school. What originally caught my eye was an old dump truck rotting away next to a little farmhouse. I had to stop and see what I could get myself into! Nestled off to the side was a gravel driveway. As my eyes wandered, they suddenly got much bigger-I could see the gates to scrap metal heaven. Several large old logging trucks, semi-trailers, bread trucks, old autos, large old barns, piles of steel, and a large anvil on a stump. Shit everywhere, but it was organized chaos. I knew I would fit in. I would have to say that what started out as a random drive ended in a great friendship with countless hours of front porch sweet tea drinking and bullshitting. It’s an early 1900s original! You just don’t see too many of these, and I wasn’t leaving without it. The wood was rotted and the frame was so rusted; it had been sitting exposed to the elements for many years. I had the vision though-mission accepted??? . The cast iron hardware and framework were so unique; I had to bring it back to life! I never thought it would take me 12-13 years to start it, though?? . I only wish I had a photo of the cart the day I found it?? .. This project turned out?????????? . Big thanks to Gene Fritsche for all your work on this one. We kicked some ass, buddy???? . WHAT IS A HIT & MISS????? A hit-and-miss engine is a type of internal combustion engine that was popular in the early 20th century, primarily used for small-scale applications like powering farm machinery, water pumps, and small factory equipment. It is named for its method of operation; the engine “hits” (fires) only when necessary and “misses” (coasts without firing) when the load is low or when the speed of the engine is above the set level. These engines are HEAVY BASTARDS, and you needed one of these “trucks” to transport your power from job to job! The last photo I attached is very close to this model and how this particular cart would have been used. I personally think this would be awesome if someone used this for displaying a restored hit-and-miss???????????? but There are so many different uses-coffee table, pull the kids around the yard?? , wheel out your store sign for the day?? , store display? 7 ft total length with handle.

1920′s MAGNETO MAGNET CHARGER with TUNGAR BULBS -FORD T, HIT & MISS ENGINE, TRACTOR
1920's

Here is an original early 1920′s Magneto Magnet Charger with the original rare rectifier Tungar Bulbs…. These bulbs converts 110 Volts from Alternating Current to about 2 Amps Direct Current. This is not a battery charger… This was made to re-charge the magnets in Magneto’s in the Model T Fords, or any old engine that used a Magneto. This also can be used to re-charge the magnets in newer Magneto’s too….. Brands like a “VERTEX”, “HUNTS”, “FAIRBANKS MORSE”, “BOSCH”, “WICO”, AND “SCINTILLA”, type magneto’s. It appears to be in excellent condition… And to be used in a standard 110 volt electrical outlet. This is a very rare & hard to find item… Don’t overlook it! NOTE: If you are NOT 100% SURE, or SATISFIED with my description or pictures to own this 100 some year old item…. Thanks for your understanding! 1920′s UNITED MOTORS SERVICE hit & miss engine DELCO-LIGHT DEMONSTRATOR SIGN
1920's
Comments Off
Delco-Light/United Motors Service Co. Was a subsidiary of General Motors (GM). The Delco-Light Farm Plant consisted of a gas powered stationary engine with a built-in 32-volt D. And was very successful in providing electric power to country residents beginning in 1916. A Delco-Light shallow/deep well pump was also available to provide indoor running water. This was quality made of heavyweight painted canvas and was used to both protect and advertise the Delco-Light/Pump display unit. A UMS Sales Representative would travel around rural areas demonstrating the Light Plant & Pump to potential buyers. Most likely dates from the 1920′s to early 1930′s era and was found many years ago in the attic of an ancient United Motors Service Dealer. 45″ long x 46″ wide (at base) x 18-1/2 tall. Is somewhat of an elongated-Pyramid shaped. CONDITION : Good used especially for its age. Has some paint loss/wrinkling/light soiling/some small tears, holes/an old patch repair/etc. When cleaning with soap & water I noticed that the painted graphics are still strongly adhered to the canvas. One side is better than the other. Please closely examine our photos for additional details. Please see my NOS Parts and Automobilia Listings. 1 920′s John Deere Horse and a Half Hit & Miss Gas Engine. It is in nice “as found” condition. It doesn’t look like it was left out. Light oxidation on the flywheel which will clean. Much original finish and details left to see. We replaced the rocker spring and there is a homemade choke flapper on it. The gas tank is crudy but we been able to get it to run on its own a few times. This video shows it firing up with a shot of starting fluid. Came with this cart and we fastened it so it is mobile. Check out the photos and the video. Flywheels are about 18 in diameter. We would be happy to provide additional pictures upon request. Ironage is pleased to offer a very wide range of antiques and interesting items. We do the best that we can with pictures and the descriptions but are not experts.
