Good running engine, has a VERY HOT, original magneto. Engine starts with the flick of the flywheels on a rotary style magneto that has no impulse, which indicates how good the magneto is and how well the engine is tuned. These engines normally have to be started with a crank, hand-turned up to speed, which isn’t all that fun, or safe. Engine has Very Good compression, and spins very smoothly – the flywheels will bounce back and forth 5 or more times after it stops from the compression. Rarely Seen with ORIGINAL Fairbanks Morse TYPE RV Magneto & wire, specially in this condition. Exhaust is not original but sounds pretty good actually…. I sprayed it down with WD-40 to clean off dust, cobwebs and to be able to look them over. It won’t be all wet & shiney when they arrive. Please watch video below of the engine being started cold. It is being started with the starting chamber on the left – this was used back in the day to start on gasoline and then turn on the main needle to the fuel tank to run kerosene after the engine was warmed up. That was because Kerosene used to be cheaper then Gasoline, now its quite the opposite! Now days the starting chamber is rarely used. Notice how easy it starts, and how it runs – keep in mind its not warm (35 degrees outside) and will run better, and also the smoke will clear up, when warm. Original 2hp Fairbanks Morse Dishpan Z. This is a throttle governed engine. It still has some decent original paint on it. It has the original flat belt pulley on it. The valves move as they should and it turns over nicely with some wear in the bearings but there should be shims to be taken out yet. The cast iron governor bracket is off of it because the small gear is stuck. I’m sure with a little heat it would free up. The engine has the original mixer on it. It has an old braze repair on the head as can be seen. There are no other cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. It should be a pretty straightforward restoration. I can deliver for free (or a cold beverage) to LeSueur, MN, Baraboo, WI, or Portland, IN, or Coolspring, PA, in 2019. It can stay here as long as needed as long as it’s paid for.
