Up for sale is this 1932 Maytag hit and miss model 31 engine only. I believe it would be an older restoration but could be original. It has good compression. I cleaned it up a little bit , otherwise it is as I found it. It is in really good shape. It is not perfect please see pictures for condition details. Paint has some flaking and is still needs cleaned up a bit better. This motor is a great candidate for a full restoration or would display as is quite nicely. Up for sale is a rare Maytag upright gas engine. She will be a good runner with a little time spent on it. Main bearing and connecting rod needs sleeved. Main bearing is not broke. Has a chip on cylinders fin on top and a chip on top of tank cover. The chip is not into fair on the top. So gas will not leak. I found the correct flywheel hub for this engine. When we set up to go to the show we are always thinking of something that we can hook to our engines so it will be turning something and make it extra special to look at. When tuned, these engines start easy and run great, but because of there design they smoke really good. Especially if tuned a little rich. Sometimes people tend to turn up there noses from all the smoke these great engines produce. So why not take advantage of what these engines do best and give them a reason to stay up wind and watch it run. People will tell others to go over and look at that muffler on that Maytag. You can watch it run on youtube. This is made of cast iron and nicely detailed. It has small holes on each corner of its mouth and big smoking nostrils. It is painted with hi temp. This is a pretty nice original short frame Maytag 92 air cooled hit and miss gas engine. These were used originally under some of the Maytag wash machines. It is in good original condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of other than a chipped cooling fin and another slight chip on the carburetor which shouldn’t affect anything. It turns over nicely with good compression and has good spark. I don’t think it would take very much effort to make noise with it! It would be a great addition to your early air cooled engine collection. I can deliver for free (or a cold beverage) to LeSueur, MN, Baraboo, WI, Portland, IN, or Coolspring, PA, next year. This is the infamous Side Exhaust model 92 Mayag. Introduced in 1927 the model 92 used a exhaust elbow that earned its nick name as the side exhaust. There are many other small features that define the early engines. This engine has all of them. This engine has been thoroughly reconditioned inside. The carburetor was fully rebuilt getting all it needed to make it a fully reconditioned component. The ignition system also received a total reconditioning. The coil was thoroughly dried out and the points assembly disassembled, cleaned reconditioned and reassembled. The condenser was tested and installed and all the other ignition parts reconditioned. And lastly the braker contacts assembly was positioned with the original factory points location gage. The connecting rod was in pretty good condition but I decided to resize the rods large end while it was apart. The crankshaft was thoroughly cleaned and polished. The rings were in very good condition so they were reused, and the cylinder was cleaned of carbon and the glaze was broke on the cylinder walls and sanded to allow the rings to reseat themselves. A new kill switch was installed. The pull rod was aged to make it blend with the rest of the engine. I decided to recondition the engine and retain the original look of a vintage engine. It has had a full tank of fuel run through it and it runs like a dream. I have a video posted on face book of it running. Serial number is in the 255XXX range.
