This engine has evolved in some respects due to Rogers health issues thru the years, he originally built it with a ignitor and a gasoline tank for fuel. 1st he removed the ignitor and installed a sparkplug and made a hall effect ignition system then it would start and run sweet early in the Kool mornings otherwise it was too hard to start. A couple years later the fuel mixer started to become a problem and after a small fire in the mixing valve Roger used a propane demand regulator and switched the fuel to propane much easier to start no matter how cold it was in the mornings. This engine was last run at a show about 9 years ago since then the engine has been sitting on a shelf in the machine shop. I had help to get the engine down I hooked up the 6 V battery and it started up with just a flip of the flywheels. The engine needs cleaning but it runs sweet just like I remember it. The engine will have to be picked up here I can not crate it or even lift it. There are some dismantled and never cleaned, some of which are rare. They will be marked as running or not with pictures. I will be starting with some of the unmachined casting sets new in boxes. Some of the boxes will be opened by me to insure there is no rust as some of the boxes are stored in the machine shop with no heat for the last year. Thank You for looking. This model (not true scale) of a economy gas engine with it’s cast bronze flywheels and a full operating clutch pulley belted to a pump jack old time well pump that does pump into the stock tank. The pump is cast iron with brass workings under the base. We use baby oil in the pump so the iron parts don’t rust. This was a big draw to our display people were always asking to see it run. The engine ran on gasoline until the last couple years Roger had trouble getting it started as his hands started to fail so he hooked up a propane hose to it but he complained about the power loss. This was at the last show we were at since then the engine has been covered and just sat in the machine shop that was 9 years ago. I was able to get it started myself I only let it run for a few min so I know it runs ok. There is a model T Ford ignition coil in the base requires a 6Volt battery, there are roller bearings on the crankshaft mains I have not been able to find the propane demand regulator Roger built for it and he is not able to make any more. Note that a small lathe & mill are required to machine this engine. The Type D is neatly styled vertical engine with a 1-piece cylinder & base casting & it was designed to look & be built like something that could have been made years ago. It uses an over-hung flywheel crankshaft that sits inside the four tapering legs of the engine base. This engine uses high tension spark ignition & runs off regular gasoline by using a simple RMC vapor carburetor. The engine can also be easily set up for other gas or liquid fuels. For a gas engine, it goes together fairly easy & is a neat engine to run. Engine Dimensions: 3/4″ Bore, 4-3/4″ diameter flywheel. The finished engine will stand about 10-1/2 tall & will weigh about 9 lbs. 3 Grey-Iron Castings, (engine base, flywheel & head castings). Detailed Nameplate with Stamped Serial #. Full, computer drawn machining plans with machining notes. A computer CD full of pictures of finished engines, machining set-ups, jigs, etc. There is also an engine manual/owners manual on the CD that can be printed out. This contains notes about adjusting the engine & running it. Note: Screws, nuts & other small hardware & small stock pieces for this engine do not amount to much & is not included. There is a parts list with the plans. You will need to have an ignition coil (preferably a buzz coil type or one made for a model engine) & a battery to run the engine. A video of a finished engine running on YouTube can be seen below; the finished engine is not for sale. The RMC “Type D” Non-Compression Engine – YouTube. Compared to other gas engine kits, this kit is fairly simple to machine since the engine doesnt have any gears, cams, push rods, valves, etc. To machine & line-up. Care should still be taken to machine the few parts this engine does have and a small lathe & mill & standard tools will be needed to machine the castings & make parts for this engine. The base & head were sand cast without a follow board using RMCs own handmade core-less patterns. Because the base casting on the Type D engine is so unique, it has a longer parting line than normal. Also like any casting, foundry finish quality can vary & depending on the foundry finish, it may take time to detail the castings as wanted. The castings are made from high-grade ductile iron & do clean up easily with an air die grinder, carbide burr & files. Note that the base casting has mounting bosses placed conveniently on it, making it ideal for free-lance engine builders to make an engine out of. New Washington, Ohio 44854. This is a really nice home built air cooled flywheel engine model. It was built a few years ago by great machinist and his skills are quite evident in its craftsmanship! I believe it started out as a Nelson Brothers engine and several modifications were made. It has a counter balanced crankshaft and a spark timer setup on it. It has 9 inch flywheels so it is a pretty good sized model. It has excellent compression and shouldn’t take much to make noise as it was a running engine not very long ago. The oiler stem needs repair and it needs a throttle linkage from the rod to the carburetor as it was lost somewhere along the way but this should be a pretty straightforward piece to make. No other cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. It is presented nicely on skids with a gas tank and includes the starting crank for it. It is a very unique engine that is sure to turn heads at the shows! This would be a fine addition to your early air cooled engine collection! I can deliver for free (or a cold beverage) to Coolspring, PA, later this year. It can stay here as long as needed as long as it’s paid for. I can be reached at 262 573 193 1 if you’d like to talk about it. The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it!
