The engine is mechanically in very nice shape, excellent compression. The only welds I can find are on one main bearing cap, and the rocker arm (see pics). There are only a handful of these engines known, so if your looking to add a rare engine to your collection, here is your chance. The Webster magneto is very weak, doesn’t have enough spark to run the engine, so I have been running it with a battery and coil. The single bar Websters lose magnetism over the years more so than the two and three bar, so I’m sure all it needs is a good charge. You can see by looking at the pictures this engine has lots of unique features. The engine seems to run fairly decent for being such a small throttler. Feel free to ask questions! The governor yoke is broke and the weights are missing, also the pot metal on the throttle butterfly is no good. Other than those things, this engine looks to be in very nice shape. The ignitor trip assembly with the eccentric arm that rides on the camshaft IS INCLUDED it’s just not on the engine, there wasn’t one on it when I bought it, but I’m including one from my parts supply (see picture). Original muffler, pulley, magneto, ignitor, crankcase breather, fuel pump, etc… Are all there and all look to be in really good shape, even the gas tank looks solid! The engine is stuck so it will need some work to get running again. Free storage for up to 6 months. This engine will be a fun, easy project for a beginner, or anybody! Feel free to ask questions! This is a throttle governed engine. Only thing I see missing is the wire mesh, straw cover for the flywheel. Only damage is a chunk out of the pulley. Has compression, and good spark. Even has the original IHC wing nut on the valve cover! Gas tank and air cleaner are both in perfect shape. Radiator also looks flawless, no dents, inside looks nice and clean too. If I trusted the homemade bent pipe starting crank I would try and start it myself, I’m sure it will fire right up with very little trouble. Hard to find LB baler engines this nice and complete! This engine is in great shape, only negative thing I can say, is that the crank handle in the flywheel is missing, which is only a bent piece of steel with a wood handle, would be an easy thing to make. Engine is just as easy or easier to start by turning the flywheel. Other than that, this engine is totally complete and show ready. Good compression, and it starts right up with no trouble every time. Has the original nameplate on it yet, as well as the cast iron gas tank with correct gas fittings. No gas or water leaks, and no cracks breaks or welds! I have the engine slowed down a lot in the video, if you want it to hit harder and coast longer, just tighten the nut on the governor spring. These little Monitors are out there, but you don’t see one running at every show! This engine just needs a new owner and a show to take it to, NO tinkering required. This engine is in far above average condition, the compression is flawless, you can hold it all day and it won’t leak by. The magneto is hot and there are no cracks, breaks or welds on this engine that i can find. Has a really nice, correct cooling tank on the side that works just great. The engine will run all day without skipping a beat. Somebody went to a whole lot of trouble and machined a brand new belt pulley out of aluminum, this engine was shown regular by the previous owner. Take a look at the pictures and video and see for yourself, if your looking for a unique engine to take to the shows this summer, but want one small enough to handle, this is it. This engine is so well balanced, it sat on the cement while running today and didn’t even move. The only thing this engine needs is a head gasket, it was bubbling today when it was running, should be a very easy fix. Throttle lever works as it should. This is a real nice original 1 1/2hp fairbanks morse z gas engine. It is commonly called a dishpan z for obvious reasons. It is a throttle governed engine and is in excellent condition as can be seen. It has excellent compression and lots of original paint! It hasn’t been run in a few years but i see no obvious reason why it won’t run although i haven’t tried it. It has the original belt pulley on it and seems to have very little usage on it as the bearings and gears are all very nice yet. It would be a fine addition to your collection of original engines or a probable upgrade from the dishpan z you currently have in your collection.
