5 Lunkenheimer swing top oiler. The oiler is in very nice shape, with perfect glass. Everything works just as it should, no issues with this oiler. The engine is in really nice shape, with maybe a 10-15 year old restoration on it. The only thing that is not correct on this engine is the gas tank, but they did a great job finding one that looks good, and making straps and correct looking holders for it. I took the spark plug out and gave it a spin, and it produced an excellent spark. Both flywheels are in great shape, no fins broke on either one, pot metal one looks like new. No chipped cylinder fins. Has compression but I can hear some leaking past the valves, a few minutes of run time will clear all that up. The gas tank has some very, very bad gas it it and varnish which is the only reason I didn’t want to attempt to start it. New owner will need to clean the gas tank out, after a good cleaning the engine should be ready to run. Carburetor is flawless, no cracks or corrosion. Even has the factory original Briggs air cleaner on it yet! It is mounted on a great looking set of skids. No issues or repairs anywhere on this engine. I can deliver for FREE to Portland, Indiana in May, or Baraboo, WI coming up soon in May, as well as Coolspring, PA in June. Feel free to ask questions. Only issue with the cart is the front steering end, between the rails somebody welded in some steel, where originally it’s supposed to be a block of wood. It would be very easy to grind those welds off and put wood back in there like it’s supposed to be. Probably less than 10 of weld bead would have to be ground off, not a big job at all. All four wheels are in excellent shape, all hubs are there and in good shape. There are no issues with the wheels, hubs, axles, steering etc… It has a really nice, heavy duty hardwood tongue that comes with it, ready to hook on the back of your tractor and go. Very little wear in the wheel bearings. Within an afternoon of minor tinkering, this cart could easily be put back to 100% correct, and ready for your engine. I believe this cart is correct for both an 8hp and also 10hp Famous, or Titan engine. Channel iron length I believe is the only difference. I can deliver this cart to Portland, IN swap meet (May) or show (August), as well as Baraboo, WI swap meet in May, or Coolspring, PA show in June. You can also pick this cart up here, we are 100 miles north of Detroit, and 35 miles east of Saginaw. If you will be picking it up, I can store it here for up to 6 months, no charge. Bracket part number is 303J1. This bracket is in perfect shape, and ready to use. Very nice original patina, no pitting, and no cracks, breaks, or welds. The wheels are 10 in diameter, the cart is complete with a nice hardwood slab for the skids, and a oak battery box complete with wires. The only flaw with this cart is one of the wheels has a crack in one of the spokes (see picture), that is the only flaw with this cart. They don’t get any nicer that this, it is ready to put under your Sandwich engine or any engine you want to put it under. Only thing it needs is a handle to pull it around, I did not get one when I bought it, but it would be very easy to make something up. It has FB4209 stamped in the block. The base is in perfect shape, but no carb. The pot metal flywheel, and backplate are also in perfect shape, no issues. Somebody had made a tin shroud to put around the fins for better air flow, so there is about 8 or so really small holes drilled and taped in the crankcase where they attatched it, would be very easy to plug them. The only other bad thing, is the head isn’t correct, somebody put a 4 bolt head on it, when the block is a 2 bolt, so they used one of the original holes in the block, and for the other three, they put little gobs of weld on, so they could drill and tap them for the other 3 holes, I think that would also be real easy fix, to take the head off and grind those welds off, and plug the holes. Finding the correct head will be your biggest problem. The last thing to say is, the cast iron flywheel has holes drilled in it as you can see, and there are cooling fins inside the flywheel, The holes, and fins both are most definitely not homemade, they are factory done, being an FB, I’m sure it was one of Briggs ideas for better cooling. The holes being machined on angles, to suck air in. The fins inside the flywheel are machine bent and made, nothing about it is cobbled. If you zoom in on the picture you will see it is a factory done job with the holes and fins, and the rivets that hold the fins on, with original paint overtop of the rivets. Very restorable engine, especially since they are repoping the peace pipe carbs. Feel free to ask questions, these FB’s don’t pop up for sale every day! 7 DAY LISTING – NO RESERVE!!! There are not many early, vertical ignitor Jumbo’s floating around, that’s for sure! The engine is totally complete, including the muffler, pulley, and I have a reproduction crankguard that goes with it as well. The engine has very nice compression and the Webster mag is nice and HOT. You can see some really early characteristics on this engine that were soon changed on later Jumbo engines, like the pushrod holder is just a cavity in the rocker arm itself, working with the double spring on the exhaust valve, to hold the pushrod in place. Speed changer works great, this engine will run at rated working speed, or just idle for play by changing the lever back or forth. This engine has no grease cups on the mains, it has oil troughs, another early feature. It also has a dry head. Skids are original to the engine, and in good shape. Nice ball check oiler. The only non correct thing on the engine is the gas tank which is from a Briggs engine, but it works great. Nice original green paint all over the engine, and plenty of grease too. Starting crank is built in the flywheel. This engine needs NOTHING except a new home, gas, oil, and a show to take it to. Nice unpainted original engines like this are few and far between. This engine was just found in an old barn less than two weeks ago, looks to have never been cobbled, or messed with in any way shape or form. The wood plank it is setting on did not come with the engine, it’s just something I found to set the engine on. The engine is totally complete, it’s not missing one part, it has the original muffler, crankguard, and belt pulley on it. The engine is stuck, but I know it will free up easy, just from looking it over. The magneto, detent assembly, and some other small parts are not stuck. The piston is just stuck from setting in a barn for probably the better part of 70+ years. Has the original nameplate on it. Bore looks good, no bad pitting. Webster magneto looks to be in excellent shape, with no issues. There are NO, cracks, breaks or welds on this engine with the exception of a small, very old weld on the crankguard where it bolts to the base. This is an early and more desirable style Jumbo, with the “skeleton” style base. This is a true hit & miss, and would be a very simple, fun, and easy project for a beginner getting into engines. If you really got to it, I think this engine could be running in a weekend. If I had more spare time I would knock the piston out, and get it running myself. These early Nelson Brothers aren’t really plentiful, when you get it lose and running, you will have a very nice engine to take to the shows and draw some attention. I have had a handful of these Ideal and Bluffton engines, and this one is without question the nicest, both mechanically and cosmetically that I’ve owned. This engine is quite early I’ve been told, and it has 95% of the original dark brown paint on it yet! This engine is 100% complete and unmolested with the exception of a muffler. It even comes with the original starting crank which fits the crankshaft nice and tight, no slop at all, works great to start it. It also comes with the original tin cover that goes over the cooling fins and fan, I left it off since I know a lot of people like to see everything open. The engine is mounted on the original skids, and has the original battery box, and knife switch. The gas tank is also original and in great shape, no leaks. Out of syracuse, ny. These engines were built for real type mowers. This engine is very small and in really nice shape. The only thing that looks not factory is they have a pin through the flywheel hub, i think there is supposed to be a pin in there but i could be wrong. Otherwise the engine is in excellent shape, with no cracks, breaks or welds anywhere. These engines are very few and far between, this is the first one i have ever owned. It shouldn’t take more than an afternoon of tinkering to have this running like a top. If you collect rare engines, or oddball aircooleds, here is your chance to ad one to your collection.
