The engine has good compression. There is no gas tank, so I have been running it with a squirt can of gas. Runs nice and slow, hits strong! Has a 3 bar Webster magneto that is in excellent shape, and so is the bracket. The carburetor is homemade, but works just fine. Could use a new wrist pin and bushing, in these early Economys the pin is steel and the bushing is cast iron, so they make a lot of clunking noise with the slightest bit of wear, I would suggest putting a brass bushing in, it will get rid of all the clunk noise. The engine has the original belt pulley on it which is also in very nice shape. Only issues are, the rocker arm is welded, and there is a small weld on the side of the hopper. Oiler may need some tlc, mainly a good cleaning. Good straight engine that needs very little to be show ready, basically all you need is a gas tank and a fuel line with a checkvalve, that’s it! Could use a muffler or a nice straight pipe, whatever the new owner prefers. Nice early engine, right around 1916! Just needs a new home! So sell along with their water pumps. The compression is really good, there are NO issues with this engine at all. Flywheels run perfectly true and are both in great shape. The engine has the original name plate on it yet. It is mounted on a very nice set of skids, and is complete with a battery box and buzz coil. The engine is very unworn, and in great shape, most Duro’s either have flywheel problems or issues of some kind, this one is about as good as it gets. The engine is complete including a muffler and belt pulley. Comes with a rope start as well, the engine fires right up after choke, every time. All you need to run it, is some gas and a 6 or 12v battery, that’s it! This is a 4 cycle engine so you don’t even have to mix oil in the gas. These engines are getting very hard to find, even harder to find in this condition, so if you have been looking for one, don’t pass it up. It’s show ready! Circa 1905 12hp Fairbanks Morse Type N hit and miss engine. Serial number on the cylinder is #43736, no stamp on the crank, head has a different number. The engine has had a complete restoration: new sleeve, piston rings, new oilers and glass, offside flywheel was refitted to crank, reproduction carb, match start, air pump, chimney, fuel pump, hot tube burner. There are no cracks in the cylinder. There is a small crack in the base on the front and was drilled at the end, showed in pic, shouldn’t be an issue. The ignitor is refurbished, all new plumbing etc. The engine has great compression. The exhaust valve was ground and seated. All parts were polished and cleaned including flywheel rims. Battery box is included (I made it). Flywheels run pretty close to true, one side is out less than 3/16ths. The engine is beautiful, but needs to find a new home. I just don’t have the room to house it and I can’t take it anywhere to show it. Please feel free to ask any questions. This is a very nice original 1 1/2hp Fuller and Johnson Type N hit and miss gas engine. It is a true hit and miss gas engine and has an open crankcase and lots of moving parts. It is in excellent original condition as can be seen with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind. It turns over nicely with excellent compression. I haven’t run it but I’m sure with some fresh gas and a cleaned check valve it would start right up. It has the rarely seen Sumter rotary magneto attachment right behind the hopper which makes it a self contained engine with no need for a battery and coil. It has most of it’s original paint and decals as can be seen and there is very little wear anywhere on it. It has the original gas tank, a cylinder oiler, and one original skid. The other seems to have been replaced for an unknown reason but this could easily be duplicated and made to look like an original. This engine has very dainty flywheels on it and has very nice lines to it. It could still stand some more cleaning to expose more paint but that’s the fun part. These original engines are getting harder to find every day as original farmsteads are quickly becoming a thing of the past! These engines were used to pump water from shallow wells, to storage tanks for home, farm or business. This engine was found in a Michigan barn in 1967 or 68 by another collector (who I got it from), and he NEVER ran it once, so theres a good chance this engine hadn’t run since the 1950′s. All I have done is trip the old paint job off, and run some new gas lines, and clean out the fuel pump. There are two welds on the engine, one is on the pump itself, and one is on the water jacket of the engine (see pictures). The only other minor issue, is a small chip out of the muffler, which isn’t original, but works fine. Engine has good compression, and everything works as it should. I have never attempted to pump water with it, but I’m sure it doesn’t need much if anything to start pumping water. These Kewanee engines are few and far between, and they are quite early I would guess just before 1910. Lots of monkey motion on this engine, that is really nice to watch! There is no gear growling on any of the gears, or bad noises of any kind, with the exception of a little wrist pin clunk which most engines have. Has the original cast brass nameplate which a lot of these engines are missing. This engine needs nothing but a new home, and some shows to display it at. There are not many early, vertical ignitor Jumbo’s floating around, that’s for sure! The engine is totally complete, including the muffler, pulley, and I have a reproduction crankguard that goes with it as well. The engine has very nice compression and the Webster mag is nice and HOT. You can see some really early characteristics on this engine that were soon changed on later Jumbo engines, like the pushrod holder is just a cavity in the rocker arm itself, working with the double spring on the exhaust valve, to hold the pushrod in place. Speed changer works great, this engine will run at rated working speed, or just idle for play by changing the lever back or forth. This engine has no grease cups on the mains, it has oil troughs, another early feature. It also has a dry head. Skids are original to the engine, and in good shape. Nice ball check oiler. The only non correct thing on the engine is the gas tank which is from a Briggs engine, but it works great. Nice original green paint all over the engine, and plenty of grease too. Starting crank is built in the flywheel. This engine needs NOTHING except a new home, gas, oil, and a show to take it to. Nice unpainted original engines like this are few and far between. This engine has been restored probably 20 years ago, and is in excellent condition. The skids under this engine are original and in perfect shape, the gas tank is also in very good shape, with no leaks or repairs. This engine even has the original tin crank guard, and pressed steel pulley. The Sumter magneto is nice and HOT, and I put a brand new base on it, from Rudy Adrian’s Magneto. There are NO cracks, breaks or welds on this engine that I can find. Flywheels run true and compression is very strong. It even has the original nameplate still on the head. If you have been looking for a plug oscillator Fairbanks to add you your collection, they don’t get much better than this one! I can store this engine for up to 6 months or until you come get it, we are 100 miles north of Detroit. (engine runs better once it gets really warm). The engine is mounted on a nice set of Fairbanks gas engine trucks, which I believe this engine has been on it most, if not all of it’s life. The engine has good compression, and starts right up every single time on the first crank after choke. The magneto on this engine is super hot, you don’t need to spin the engine super fast to get it going like most JD engines. The ONLY weld is on the bottom of the water jacket, right where most every JD engine is welded. The weld is a nice job and doesn’t leak, the water leaking you see in the video is coming from the worn out drain fitting. Both flywheels run perfectly true. It has the original flat belt pulley, the muffler however isn’t original but works just fine. Speed adjuster works just as it should, and so does the governor, this engine is ready to work, or play. If your looking for an engine in it’s work clothes that’s easy starting and will run all day, this is it. The engine is perfectly in time, runs smooth, coasts good, and is ready to hit the shows this summer and fall! Please see pictures and video, and decide for yourself.
