This is an original cast iron piston and rod for an Alamo, Rock Island, Empire, Cockshutt, or other Alamo-built hit and miss or throttle governed gas engine. The rod has a part number of 5943. The piston is 4 1/2 inches in diameter and the center to center from the wrist pin to the crankshaft journal is about 15 inches. I would say this is for about a 4-5 hp engines. If you know what size it fits please educate me. It is in good condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind. The babbitt bearing looks to be in good shape as well. The wrist pin moves but is very stiff. The original rings are in it and may be usable but I’ll leave that up to the new owner. The rod cap is on it as well. Please measure your engine to be sure it works for your application. These original parts are quite tough to find in the wild or even at swap meets! If you’ve been looking for one to complete a restoration or to replace your broken or repaired one here’s your chance. The pictures tell the story. It would surely beat making them! This is a very hard to find original governor for a walking beam Alamo hit and miss gas engine. At least I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s for. If it isn’t please educate me! It might also work for some steam applications. Please do your homework to be sure it will work for you. It mounts with a half moon shelf about 4 3/8 inches long with two holes 2 5/15 inches apart on center. There is also a larger hole in the shelf. It stands about 10 1/4 inches tall overall. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs other than a bushing in the horizontal shaft housing. This should probably be redone as it is worn again. The gears are a bit worn but will last a good while yet. The vertical shaft and bearings are nice and tight with very little wear. Everything is nice and greasy and moves as it should. Other than the horizontal shaft there seems to be very little wear elsewhere. I can’t remember ever seeing another Alamo governor like this available so if you need one don’t miss it. Early Alamo parts of any kind are rather. Difficult to find in the wild or even at swap meets. It will likely be a long time before another one turns up and it probably won’t be this nice. This one is isn’t perfect but with a little elbow grease could be made perfect. It would surely beat making a complete governor! I can be reached at 262 573 1931 if you’d like to talk about it. Please do your homework to be sure it fits or is able to be adapted to your needs. It still looks great on the shelf, however! Up for your consideration is a 3 to 5 HP Hit and Miss gas engine factory cart for either a Rock Island, Alamo, or Empire gas engine. The cart is in great original condition with no cracks, breaks, or welds. All wheels turn easy and the handle is nice and straight. Only problem I see is some of the hub caps don’t match with show be an easy fix. Total length of rails is 46 3/4″ and total width is just under 12 1/2″. Here is a very nice little 2hp Alamo made by the Alamo Mfg Co. Serial number 32089 which would be around 1916. This is a very tight engine that has seen minimal use, has no broken or repaired parts and the water jacket was never frozen and cracked. It starts easy and runs very well. Has what looks to be the original cylinder oiler and grease cups. The skid it is on is not the best but it is oak and does the job. This is a true open crank hit and miss engine with make and break ignition. It uses a battery and low tension coil for ignition not included in this sale. This particular engine has some interesting history from the previous owner. In the fall of 1946 a recently discharge navy veteran named Mike Carlisle was working odd jobs in the city or Worcester Massachusetts. He was clearing out an old warehouse and this engine was in there. Mike arranged to take the engine back to his home in Sutton MA. He used it sporadically on his property mostly for pumping water. In the early 60′s he saw a few engines painted up pretty at a fair and proceeded to “pretty” up his Alamo. I know current collectors cringe at the thought but that is what was done back then. Unfortunately the tag was removed and lost. Given the engine was found in MA it may have had a Lunt Moss tag as they were an Alamo dealer out of Boston. Mike never ran the engine after he painted it. I installed the replacement gas tank that came with it and got the engine going. I’ve never take it to a show but did have it running often at home. This would make a great first engine for someone as it does not need any work or have any questionable repairs – qualities that are getting hard to find on these engine today. Fresh paint and a nice cart would really set this engine off and make for a nice display. I can also deliver to any show I attend here in NC. This is an extremely hard to find original dual fuel or kerosene mixer or carburetor for an Alamo, Rock Island, Empire, Cockshutt, or other Alamo built throttling governor or kerosene engine. It is in excellent original used condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind and includes the rocker lever that runs on the governor collar and connects to the throttle shaft. The mixer body is part number 9277. The throttle shaft is nice and tight with very little wear. Both fuel needles are very nice and move as they should. This mixer mounts to a hole in the engine’s head. The “horn” that goes into the head measures 2 inches in diameter. It may fit different sizes of engines. Please measure your engine to be sure it fits your application. I can’t ever remember seeing another mixer like this for sale so if you need one for your engine or just for a spare on the shelf here it is. I believe it is ready to be used on an engine.
