The moving parts can all be moved by hand but may need to be oiled up some. The belt tensioner rod is missing the pulley. There are some extra pieces that I do not know if they belong to this governor or not. Also I believe it may be missing a piece in the middle that goes on the brass rod, maybe more pieces I do not know. It weighs 39 lbs. Get yourself a great deal here. You steam engine guys will know what it is but I will list measurements and if you need more info please ask. From the base to the top of the shaft it is 11 7/8″The pulley is diameter is 4 1/8″ outside, where the belt rides it is 3 3/8. The balls are 2 in diameter. The base is 3 7/8″ in diameter and the hole spacing is 3″. The holes are threaded 5/16. From the off-side of the base to the outside of the pulley is 12. This item is also on display in my store and may sell. It is the buyers responsibility to know if an item is legal in their respective state. ANTIQUE PICKERING FLY BALL GOVERNOR Very nice antique 2 Pickering fly ball governor in good useable condition with no serious damage (driven pulley has two chips) and no repairs. The valve throw adjuster works, as does the valve tension device, and what looks like some sort of override also functions as it should. The horizontal shaft/bushing is showing some wear, mainly on the out board end, and no doubt in the direction of the drive belt tension (the wear is mostly horizontal). This old beauty spins easily by hand and the springs are good. Plenty of grease and grime but I do believe this one could be pressed back into service if the need is there. I personally have never seen one this complete or damage free. Half inch bolts are 2 3/4″ on center, brass valve is 2″ in diameter and the unit from top of base to top of governor is 22 1/2. For your consideration is this original antique Waters fly ball steam engine governor. This was obtained from a large farm estate, I have not cleaned this, its truly farm fresh. The governor is marked Waters 2 Boston. The gears seem to turn smoothly despite some grime and surface corrosion. If you need a better picture or close up of a part, please ask. It seems to be in very solid condition but will obviously need some oiling/work if you want to use this again. Not sure what is missing but what you see is included with the governor. It measures about 23.5″ from top to bottom, and the opening at the base is 2 1/4″. The three flyballs are about 3 1/4 in diameter each. If you need other measurements, please ask. A great governor to fix up and put to use again. Will sell with no reserve. This governor weighs 57 lbs on its own.
