Up for sale is a 4 1/2hp simplicity hit and miss gas engine. Engine does run but needs some tinkering to run perfect. On a home built cart. I believe the wood runners are original to the engine. Has the crank guard and correct muffler which are usually missing. Has old repairs to the rocker arm and head (see pictures). It is serial #12508. Would make a good restoration project to make all nice and shiny. I’m located in Two Rivers Wisconsin 54241. Will work with a shipper of your choice if you set it all up and pay for it. Vintage barn find -new way air cooled gas engine. Has good compression and spark (bosh magneto). Stored indoors since last time run. Was told this motor is a 3 1/2 HP, looks like aprox 4″or 4 1/2″bore? Heavy cart has 11 wheels. Overall measurements 42″ from ground to tip of sparkplug, 33″ from bottom of gas tank base to top of new fan shroud made at a machinery building shop copyed from what was left of the original. Has 20″ flywheels 1 1/2″ crankshaft and 8″ x 4″ flat belt pulley. Has a hand stamped #U1544 at base of cyl. This is a rare Hit and Miss engine cart that has been rebuilt with all new wood. The axles, wheels, front bolster and tiller are original hardware. The Tiller or handle is really unique and rare. I’ve never seen one with the S curvature like this. This would be ideal for an Original “Hit & Miss” engine. I don’t know the maker, whether Fairbanks or one of the many manufactures from back in the day. The dimensions are 48″ long by 18″ wide. Antique 1911 Waterloo Boy 2 1/2 hp. Hit and miss engine on Waterloo cart. Twenty years ago the previous owner had it bored and sleeved, with new rings, and crank. Two wheels on the cart have old repairs and all the wheels are a bit wobbly with age but cart pulls nice and is solid. I would guess that the head has an old repair, lower left side, but not sure on that either, starts easy and runs great, (sure on that) crank guard is a reproduction. This is a pretty nice older restoration early style 2 1/2hp United hit and miss engine. It has the early style ignitor trip and an open crankcase. It is in good condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I’m aware of other than the rocker arm which could easily be replaced. The head hasn’t been repaired like most of them. It needs a muffler and a correct gas tank which are both available as reproductions. It is on a homemade cart that makes it easy to move. It has a heavy wooden battery box on it as can be seen. It has excellent compression and should run with some fresh gas and a battery and coil although I haven’t tried it. It ran a few years ago at local shows. The paint on the crankguard needs some attention but I think it’s the wrong color, anyway. I can deliver it for free to LeSueur, MN, Baraboo, WI, Portland, IN, or Coolspring, PA, later this year. It can stay here as long as needed as long as it’s paid for and I will load it for you. The pictures tell the story. It’s a pretty good sized engine for 2 1/2hp. Only issue with the cart is the front steering end, between the rails somebody welded in some steel, where originally it’s supposed to be a block of wood. It would be very easy to grind those welds off and put wood back in there like it’s supposed to be. Probably less than 10 of weld bead would have to be ground off, not a big job at all. All four wheels are in excellent shape, all hubs are there and in good shape. There are no issues with the wheels, hubs, axles, steering etc… It has a really nice, heavy duty hardwood tongue that comes with it, ready to hook on the back of your tractor and go. Very little wear in the wheel bearings. Within an afternoon of minor tinkering, this cart could easily be put back to 100% correct, and ready for your engine. I believe this cart is correct for both an 8hp and also 10hp Famous, or Titan engine. Channel iron length I believe is the only difference. I can deliver this cart to Portland, IN swap meet (May) or show (August), as well as Baraboo, WI swap meet in May, or Coolspring, PA show in June. You can also pick this cart up here, we are 100 miles north of Detroit, and 35 miles east of Saginaw. If you will be picking it up, I can store it here for up to 6 months, no charge. Feel free to ask questions. 38″ rear wheels 30″ front wheels 20″ width of the rails, outside to outside 92″ rail length 55 across the rear wheels, outside to outside. It is mechanically very nice, and runs perfect. The gas is probably a good 20 years old which is the only reason it smokes a little in the video. Hits nice and hard and coasts for a good long time. Has a really nice unworn, hot 2 bar brass Webster on it. Gas tank is brand new, no leaks, and no water leaks. Very good compression, flywheels run true. No cracks, breaks or welds. Speed control works just as it should, this engine is ready to work all day or just idle. Nice polished flywheel rims. This engine is totally complete including the original muffler. Oiler glass has a crack in it, but works great and doesn’t leak. This engine needs nothing but a new home and some gas and oil. Would be a really nice addition to any collection, I’ve owned it for almost 4 years, it’s a really hard one to let go. You can also pick it up here, we are 100 miles north of Detroit. ANTIQUE McCORMICK DEERING RUNNING GEAR Antique McCormick Deering running gear in super nice condition, very straight and only one small repair that I have noticed. The repair is on the rear bolster where the reach ties in, and can be seen in the photos below. The “McCormick Deering” painted on the rear bolster is faded and hard to read but is there. The wheels have some play, but not bad, and it rolls very nicely. Measurements are approximate: rear wheels 34 in dia. Front wheels 27 dia. Width from outside rim to outside rim is 63. The wheel base, measuring hub to hub, is 83 and it looks like the adjustable reach will allow at least 3 feet more in length of wheel base. All in all this is a very nice and very straight gear.
