1/2-Hp PARSELL & WEED ENGINE KIT. 1/3-Scale HORIZONTAL Model Engine Construction Kit. Includes Silicon-Bronze Castings, Plans, and sundries (see complete list below). A metal lathe and a milling machine are needed to machine these castings as well as other parts made from bronze, brass, steel, and aluminum. The resulting engine is a working piece of art and a joy to watch. The Parsell & Weed, 1/2-Hp Engine was offered in kit and completed form in the early 1900′s by Parsell & Weed’s Franklin Model Shop in New York City. It was also featured in their book GAS ENGINE CONSTRUCTION detailing the construction of a working, 1/2-Hp engine using only a metal lathe and hand tools. The model kit offered here is an approximate 1/3-scale replica, that when complete, should run like the original. Careful work to close tolerances are required for the construction of this kit. The 1/3-scale Parsell & Weed horizontal engine kit was originally offered in the early-mid 1990′s. The vertical version was designed and patterns made; however, it was never offered publicly. And has now completed an extensive effort to refine and redraw the model engine design, as well as completely rework the original foundry patterns. The Type B is a neatly styled inverted engine that was designed to look & be built like something that could have been made years ago. It uses an over-hung flywheel crankshaft that sits above a slanted finned, air-cooled cylinder. This engine can run as a hit & miss, (or by simply locking a governor screw), it can run as a throttler engine. It can also run in either direction. This engine uses high tension spark ignition & runs off regular gasoline by using a simple RMC vapor carburetor. The engine can also be easily set up for other gas or liquid fuels. 4 Grey-Iron Castings, (engine base, flywheel & muffler castings). Detailed Nameplate with Stamped Serial #. Full, computer drawn machining plans with machining notes. A computer CD full of pictures of finished engines, machining set-ups, jigs, etc. There is also an engine manual/owners manual on the CD that can be printed out. This contains notes about adjusting the engine & running it. Note: Material stock for larger pieces such as the piston, timer bottom, head, belt pulley etc. Is included with the castings but small pieces (1/2 diameter brass for the mixer) & hardware for this engine does not amount to much & is not included. There is a parts list with the plans. You will need to have an ignition coil (preferably a “buzz” coil type or one made for a model engine) & a battery to run the engine. Engine Dimensions: 7/8″ Bore, 5-3/4″ diameter flywheel. The finished engine will stand about 10-1/2 tall & will weigh about 7-1/2 lbs. Engine speeds from 150 to 1,500 rpm can be obtained. 1/2-Hp PARSELL & WEED ENGINE KIT. 1/3-Scale VERTICAL Model Engine Construction Kit. Includes Silicon-Bronze Castings, Plans, and sundries (see complete list below). A metal lathe and a milling machine are needed to machine these castings as well as other parts made from bronze, brass, steel, and aluminum. The resulting engine is a working piece of art and a joy to watch. The Parsell & Weed, 1/2-Hp Engine was offered in kit and completed form in the early 1900′s by Parsell & Weed’s Franklin Model Shop in New York City. It was also featured in their book GAS ENGINE CONSTRUCTION detailing the construction of a working, 1/2-Hp engine using only a metal lathe and hand tools. The model kit offered here is an approximate 1/3-scale replica, that when complete, should run like the original. Careful work to close tolerances are required for the construction of this kit. The 1/3-scale Parsell & Weed horizontal engine kit was originally offered in the early-mid 1990′s. The vertical version was designed and patterns made; however, it was never offered publicly. And has now completed an extensive effort to refine and redraw the model engine design, as well as completely rework the original foundry patterns. This extensive effort has resulted in what we feel is one of the nicest stationary gas engine kits on the market. We hope you’ll agree. Note that a small lathe & mill are required to machine this engine. The Type B is a neatly styled inverted engine that was designed to look & be built like something that could have been made years ago. It uses an over-hung flywheel crankshaft that sits above a slanted finned, air-cooled cylinder. This engine can run as a hit & miss, (or by simply locking a governor screw), it can run as a throttler engine. It can also run in either direction. This engine uses high tension spark ignition & runs off regular gasoline by using a simple RMC vapor carburetor. The engine can also be easily set up for other gas or liquid fuels. 4 Grey-Iron Castings, (engine base, flywheel & muffler castings). Detailed Nameplate with Stamped Serial #. Full, computer drawn machining plans with machining notes. A computer CD full of pictures of finished engines, machining set-ups, jigs, etc. There is also an engine manual/owners manual on the CD that can be printed out. This contains notes about adjusting the engine & running it. Note: Material stock for larger pieces such as the piston, timer bottom, head, belt pulley etc. Is included with the castings but small pieces (1/2 diameter brass for the mixer) & hardware for this engine does not amount to much & is not included. There is a parts list with the plans. You will need to have an ignition coil (preferably a “buzz” coil type or one made for a model engine) & a battery to run the engine. Engine Dimensions: 7/8″ Bore, 5-3/4″ diameter flywheel. The finished engine will stand about 10-1/2 tall & will weigh about 7-1/2 lbs. Engine speeds from 150 to 1,500 rpm can be obtained. Compared to other gas engine kits, this kit is fairly simple since the engine does not have any gears, cams, push rods, etc. To machine & line-up. Care should still be taken to machine the few parts this engine does have and a small lathe & mill & standard tools will be needed to machine the castings & make parts for this engine. Castings clean up easily with an air die grinder, carbide burr & files. Note that the base casting has mounting bosses placed conveniently on it, making it ideal for “free-lance” engine builders to make their own designs & engine creations out of if wanted.
