Scotch yoke linkage model steam engine. A scotch yoke mechanism does away with a lot of the side thrust that a conventional connecting rod engine would have. By the patina & look of the brass throttle valve fitting Id guess it was made in the 1920s or 1930s sometime. This engine has the style of some of the old marine engine models that were shown in the early Popular Mechanics magazines around that time. The engine has wear on it; the main bearings could stand bushings & the eccentric could stand a bushing as well. The engine turns over ok but there is a slightly stiff spot near bottom dead center. The engine runs but it uses a lot of air & doesnt have much power. Even if its not rebuilt, the engine has a neat look to it & would look good on a display shelf. Its base measures about 2-1/2 x 2-1/2 square & the engine is about 4-3/8 tall. Neat early slanted cast A-frame marine-type twin cylinder steam engine. Engine has nice detailed castings with original paint. There is no makers name on the engine. The engine turns over nice & runs with very little air. The only thing I seen that it is missing is one of the straight brass exhaust pipes which would be easy to replace. The engine stands 5 tall. The wood base measures 7 x 5 & the engine weighs about 3.5 lbs. No history came with the engine; its just been sitting on a shelf for the last 50 years. Thanks & please check out my other items. This engine is similar to Maytag engines. I was informed by a knowledgeable person that this one of the earliest utili-motors made. It has a split crank case which dates it to 1927-28, making it a first year engine, and it has a very low serial number. The engine turns over with compression and it does have spark. I actually had it running, but the carburetor was covered with epoxy/goo and it started leaking fuel, so I peeled off the goop to investigate and the carburetor pretty much fell apart. There is also a small crack in the foot pedal, but I kicked it over several times and it still works fine, could be replaced. Other then that this seems to be a good engine, in pretty good condition. Neat old antique tin toy wind-up engine with original paint. This was made by a company that once produced other versions & sizes of early tin wind-up toys. This company never seemed to put names on their engines. This engine is their gas engine toy & it was made in two sizes with this one here being the largest. This toy engine was made a long time ago & it has old thick original paint on it. Its an early model & Id guess it was made around 1895 to 1910. No history came with the engine; its just been sitting on a shelf for the last 50 years. Overall its in good shape with nice original paint. The wind-up mechanism is all there but is not working & will need messed with. Engine stands about 4 tall & has a 2-3/4 diameter flywheel. 1′Pumper’ with wooden struts and pump connector, mounted on two thick boards cart it’s on not included! — this is a water well Pump Jack with a built in 1 hp hit and miss type gasoline engine — this is the earliest version of this little engine set-up before’Fairbanks Morse’ was added to the casting — circa 1911 and likely very rare — – measures app. 24 by 33 in. By about 17 in. Wide – weighs app. Overall rust with some traces of the original finish [looks like dark green] and traces of gold leaf on the’Eclipse’ lettering — this was frozen when found, but cleaning, oil and some pipe wrench scoring on the flywheel shaft broke it free and it rotates pretty well now — I do not think the flywheel pulley is original — no fuel mixer, no fuel tank, no spark plug found with this: not sure if anything else is missing or not — wood struts are pretty rough but they exist / the pump connector piece also exists but has a chip on the connector, as well as a weld repair — – from the Smokstak site:… There is the early No. 1 which just has Eclipse cast on the cylinder and not patent. Then there are the later ones which has Fairbanks-Morse 1 Eclipse and the patent on the cylinder. Both of these are essentially the same and were rated at 1hp. They only had one flywheel with three holes. 2 seems to have gone through the same casting change between the early and late engines (addition of the patent date but they all seem to have Fairbanks-Morse on the cylinder). 2 has two six spoke flywheels. The 1A is very similar to the No. 1 although all the castings are different. The 1A has two three spoke flywheels. All of the Eclipse engines could be used for pretty much anything that they could be belted up to but there primary advertised use was for pumping… Looking in the BYB, Wendall states they started making the 2 little engines, in 1911, and that it was suppose to have been made through 1922, but their price book does not list it in 1919… Thank you for visiting our site. Planned to clean her up even better than now but have too many things going on. It is missing the glass drip oiler but a few drops of oil added prior to running. There is water in picture on new 4th picture which spilled when I moved the tarp today (not oil). Planning on listing this locally tomorrow morning for 2200.00.
