Very early and rare Nunn brass oiler for early stationary gasoline or steam engine. Measures roughly 6 1/2″ x 3″. Has “Nunn Mfg Roch, NY” on rim of the oiler lid. Has “No 35″ and Pat. Feb” , “5 – 89 on the bottom of the oiler. Lid has a cover with nice solid handle that rotates to open two fill holes on open sides of the oiler lid. Oiler has a very unusual and neat mechanism for adjusting the valve-stem. The top rotates and the lower end of the top has a series of notches with numbers. A vertically moving spring-actuated catch, which is seated within a chamber formed in the bottom of the oiler cover, engages the notches and thus indicates the positioning of the valve stem as the top is rotated. This design was patented by Charels H. Nunn on Feb 5, 1889. A copy of these patent papers is included with the oiler. Overall, excellent original condition with very nice patina. This is a VERY hard to find early cast iron Madison Kipp single feed lubricator used on early steam engines and other pieces of machinery. It is in great condition for its age with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind that I can see or know of. It has some wear and old oil and dirt on it. Everything turns as it should and it seems to pump as it should. It has the original cover with the patent dates on it. It is missing one of the ratchet fingers but the other one is there for a pattern to reproduce. The insides look to be in great shape but could use some cleaning. It mounts with one hole on the L-casting on the bottom. It measures about 4 x 6 1/4 x 11 1/4 inches tall overall. It has the original lever and priming crank on it as can be seen. These early cast iron Madison Kipp lubricators are extremely difficult to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one for an authentic restoration don’t miss your chance on this one. This is a pretty nice older restoration Ideal air cooled hit and miss gas engine. It is in good condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind that I can see or know of other than a small chip on a flywheel hub and another on the pulley flange. Neither of these should affect its performance. It turns over nicely with good compression. The original mixer is with it but will need a new fuel line made which should be pretty straightforward. It will need a high tension buzz coil to run. It has the original muffler and air shroud which are usually missing. I haven’t run this engine but it ran a couple years ago. This should make a good show engine with minimal effort! I can deliver for free (or a cold beverage) to Coolspring PA, Baraboo, WI, or Portland, IN, later this year. Original, unmolested, barn fresh early 5hp Economy Model E hit and miss engine. No cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of other than a chip on the leadout cover on the mag. Mag base needs attention to three of the mounting holes but it does have great spark. The head on the engine is in good shape. It has the original muffler, pulley and the gas tank appears very solid. Hit Miss Engine Edison Battery. Very hard to come by battery. Looks complete but can’t say for sure. Has some wear and signs of use but is in good condition for the age. Not sure if the straw on the bottom is part of the battery of just for stability when not in use. The color is a cobalt(blue/purple) and not the royal blue that the pictures show.
