This is a VERY hard to find original Eisemann CM-4 base mount magneto. It was used on some early Caterpillar tractors and portable engines and possibly had other 4-cylinder applications. It is in great shape with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. It is clockwise rotation and the impulse works as it should. Everything seems to work as it should. It turns over nicely with very little bearing wear. It has good magnetism and puts out a spark on all 4 leadouts. It would likely benefit from a good cleaning and/or a new condenser. Everything inside the top cover looks to be in great shape. It mounts on a 2 inch square bolt pattern and also on a 2 x 3 1/2 inch pattern and the mounting threads are in great shape. These original Eisemann CM-4 magnetos are almost impossible to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one for an authentic restoration here’s a really nice one. Hi , about 4 years ago i attended an estate sale of a local machinist , he had his own foundry and made parts for his own steam engines and sawmill. I picked up quite a few engines and parts , i was going to start collecting and fixing them but i can see now that it is not going to happen. I need room in my workshop/garage so time to let them go. Every thing turns over but i have not been able to start it. After checking it looks like it has no spark and it has no resistance between the coil wires. It is in pretty nice shape other wise.
