Detroit, MI – USA. 6 Post Brass Cylinder Oiler. Oiler is in great condition and ready to use. 6 Post BRASS Cylinder Oiler. 9 1/2 tall tip to tip. 6 glass measures 4 1/8″ H x 3 1/2″ D. Essex Brass Corp Detroit Mich. Brass Double Drip Oiler. This hard to find style oiler was used on many brands of antique marine engines as well as Detroit and Bessemer Vertical hit and miss engines to list a few. The oiler is large measuring 3 1/2 inches in diameter and has an overall length of 9 1/2 inches. The oiler was disassembled and cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner. This oiler is in very good condition with minimal dings scratches and wrench marks. The oiler glass has a few scratches on the outside but no cracks or chips. I did not disassemble the lower sight glasses, both glasses are in good shape, they still have a little oil reside inside that needs to be flushed out. One side has a brass elbow and the other side still has its functional check valve. The oiler will need new gaskets before use and will look really nice with a light buffing. For your consideration is an original Essex Brass, Half Pint Oiler that can be used for Hit Miss, Stationary, Oil Field Engine. The 1/2 NPT threads appear in good shape. There is a check ball inside the threads. The stem for the side adjustment handle appears to be tweaked a bit but that shouldnt effect its usage. The flip adjustment on the side is spring loaded as it should be, but the sight glass below it needs replaced as its missing. Its stamped 1/2 Pint and 64000 on the end square below the drip flipper. The main stem may be tweaked a bit but its hard to tell. Essex Hot Air Engine. This is a great early hot air engine. This engine is in excellent mechanical condition it is complete with no damaged or missing parts. The moving parts of this engine seem to have very little wear and it turns over very smoothly. I have never tried running the engine but based on experience with other antique hot air engines I have no doubt that it would start and run nicely if hooked up to a proper fuel source. This engine is just about as nice of an untouched original Essex as you are likely to find. The engine has never been cleaned in any way and retains a great deal of its original silver paint. One of the coolest features of this engine the original period wood base nicely carved with the words Hot Air Engine, and name Hilbert Doepp Dec 25 1908. This engine is set up to run on natural gas and has part of the original plumbing including a fancy brass gas valve still attached. One the top side of the engine there is the name Essex and the patent date of March 24 1903. These engines were designed to run a wide variety of small equipment.
