Here is a McCormic Deering 1 1/2 HP engine. Not restored but runs very well. No knocks or rattles. See no cracks in the water tank. This engine was picked up from an estate sale and the exact history and what may or may not have been done to it is not known. We have had it running. Looks to be complete and pretty much original with the exception of the bell crank on the throttle shaft which was replaced with one that I made. The original one was pot metal and fell apart. This is an extremely hard to find original John Deere Model R2 two cylinder base mount magneto for an early Model P, GP, or GP Wide Tread tractor. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind. It is counter clockwise rotation and turns nice and smoothly with no noticeable bearing wear and the impulse works as it should. It mounts on a 2 inch square mounting pattern and the mounting threads are in great shape! . The leadout tower is in great shape. I haven’t been able to get it to spark so it may just need a good cleaning. It certainly would be a great restoration candidate. These original John Deere magnetos are quite tough to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you need one for an authentic restoration or for a spare on the shelf here it is! This magneto is in great condition, with zero wear in the armature. The pot metal mag body is perfect, with no chips, corrosion or cracks. It has the correct gear and cover on it yet. This mag has a brand new front armature shaft in it from Lightning Magneto. Mounting holes are perfect, no stripped or worn out threads! Threads are much nicer than they look in the picture. The only thing it could maybe use, are some new oil cups with the flip lids, the ones on it serve the purpose but aren’t great. This mag is about as good as it gets short of having one rebuilt. The engine is in good shape, and runs just as good as it looks. The gas tank is not correct as you can see, but seems to work ok. There is only one repair on the engine, and its on the trip assembly, which doesn’t hurt a thing. The Webster magneto is nice and hot, and never fails to start the engine right up. The only thing the engine is missing is a muffler and nameplate, which both can be bought new. Compression is good/fair, when the engine is running there is no blowby, but when you turn the engine over by hand some compression will leak by. This engine needs nothing but a new owner and some gas and oil, nothing else required to be ready to hit the shows. Comes with a nice ball check oiler with new glass, works perfect! A fairly scarce engine to find compared to a 1 1/2hp Economy! No gear noise or any bad clunks, the engine runs smooth, hits strong, and coasts nice. The engine runs excellent, and is totally complete and correct with the exception of a muffler. Magneto is good and hot, and it starts the engine right up every time. The gas tank is homemade but doesn’t leak to my knowledge and is nice and heavy duty. Flywheels run perfectly true, and the engine has good compression. Ignitor trips just fine, and isn’t worn in the shaft. I don’t see any cracks, breaks or welds anywhere on this engine that I can find. It has an old paintjob on it that still looks fairly good. Speed control nob works perfectly, the engine will run at whatever speed you want it to. Ready to hit the shows! Runs smooth, hits strong, and coasts nice. I found this model hit or miss engine recently at an Estate sale and it appears to be pretty complete but is missing a spark plug. I believe that the large B on the casting may be for Buckeye which manufactured Buckeye engines. The engine has good compression. There is no gas tank, so I have been running it with a squirt can of gas. Runs nice and slow, hits strong! Has a 3 bar Webster magneto that is in excellent shape, and so is the bracket. The carburetor is homemade, but works just fine. Could use a new wrist pin and bushing, in these early Economys the pin is steel and the bushing is cast iron, so they make a lot of clunking noise with the slightest bit of wear, I would suggest putting a brass bushing in, it will get rid of all the clunk noise. The engine has the original belt pulley on it which is also in very nice shape. Only issues are, the rocker arm is welded, and there is a small weld on the side of the hopper. Oiler may need some tlc, mainly a good cleaning. Good straight engine that needs very little to be show ready, basically all you need is a gas tank and a fuel line with a checkvalve, that’s it! Could use a muffler or a nice straight pipe, whatever the new owner prefers. Nice early engine, right around 1916! Just needs a new home! I have had it running a bit by squirting fuel in the gas line. The flywheels turn with no wobble. As can be seen in the photos, their is a chip out out of the back of the cylinder, and a crack that runs along the lower side of the cylinder with an old repair.
