This is a VERY hard to find original Gardner 1/2 inch vertical governor for a steam engine or tractor or gas engine. It is in excellent used condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind that I can see or know of. It turns smoothly with very little wear on the gear teeth and only mild wear on the pulley shaft. Everything moves as it should and I believe it would be ready to go to work on an engine. The pipe threads are in good shape. It stands about 12 inches tall overall. These original smaller size governors are almost impossible to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one for an authentic restoration here’s a really nice one. Measures 15 tall and weighs over seventeen pounds. Turns as smoothly as the day it was made. A couple of the gear teeth are chipped as shown in the photos, but it has zero effect on function. Antique Vintage 1-1/2 Gardner Governor 2 Fly Ball Hit & Miss Live Steam Engine. 2 Fly Ball Governor with Belt Tensioner/Tightner. The balls are approx. The moving parts can all be moved by hand but may need to be oiled up some. The belt tensioner rod is missing the pulley. There are some extra pieces that I do not know if they belong to this governor or not. Also I believe it may be missing a piece in the middle that goes on the brass rod, maybe more pieces I do not know. It weighs 39 lbs. Get yourself a great deal here. This is an antique #1 gardner flyball governor in used condition. Patent aug 14 1878 so the tag on the unit states. It was saved from being scraped when his neighbor became ill. Made of cast iron. Valve has some exposed brass. The pulley has a slight break in one side or missing a piece if you want to know. Wire integrated into frame. Good piece of americana.
