Old K&D Open Frame Electric Motor Antique Generator Toy Hit Miss Steam Engine

This is an old K & D, Knapp and Davis electric motor fresh from the attic of an old estate. It seems to be in good condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of other than a missing tension spring for one brush tightener. It measures about 4 5/8 inches in diameter and about 5 3/4 inches tall overall. It is about 6 1/4 inches long. It turns nicely with seemingly little wear in the bearings or on the armature. I have not tried it but I see no obvious reason why it wouldn’t motor or generate. It has the original oil cups and wire terminals on it yet as can be seen. It looks to have had a name tag on it but I think reproductions are findable. It has some original black paint on it yet but I didn’t clean it very much other than a light dusting. It would make a nice addition to your early toy or electrical collection. It would also be neat as a generator pulled by a model gas or steam engine! The pictures tell the story. 65In3Hercules ZXB Engine Avery V Tractor Hobart Generator Hit Miss Steam Oliver

This is a tiny 65 cubic inch displacement Hercules model ZXB 4 cylinder L-head gasoline engine. The tag says this little beauty has a 2-5/8″ bore and a 3″ stroke. I believe Hercules discontinued their L-head engines in 1955 and built overhead valve engines from then on. This may have been used in a Hobart generator or welder, a small Avery tractor, a small Oliver tractor, a small fork lift, or perhaps in many other applications. One might also use this engine in a midget racer. Please help me identify what this little gem might have been used in if you possibly can. This engine is stuck and will not turn over with considerable effort. I can not find any cracks or breaks in the water jacket or cylinder head anywhere. You might get lucky and free up this little jewel, otherwise it may need to be rebuilt. This beauty came from the estate sale of a deceased friend in north central Montana so I don’t know much about it. I also acquired a pair of tiny Ford flathead 60 HP engines at the same sale so my friend must have liked small engines. However, I have a friend heading east from Montana and going to Pennsylvania, Maryland and New York this coming week. He may be able to economically and safely deliver this to you depending on where you live and how soon you might want this engine. Model Perkins Wind Mill Co. 7 3/4 diameter flywheel. The generator works to make the fan run. Wood base measures 24″ L x 9 1/4″ W x 3/4 H. Please see photos for additional description.
