Waters patent, 1871 and 1885, steam engine flyball governor. I really think it could be, but you all know more than me on that. One heck of a nice piece for display anyway. Waters governors is decent condition don’t seem to come up for sale often. It is roughly 17″ tall, has a 1 1/4″ opening. It weighs 23 pounds. Could be cleaned up more. I took the baked on soot off of it, which was nearly 1/4 thick. It has 7798 stamped on one part and 325 stamped on a brass part. Not sure if those are serial numbers or what. Both to help protect it and to have it fit in a box better. Very cool piece for a steam engine guy. I can always take more pictures and try to answer any questions you may have. Here is a complete governor bracket assembly for a 2-1/2hp to 12hp Hercules and Economy engines. It appears to be in good original shape. Take a look at the pictures and see if you need it. Original Part, no cracks, breaks, or welds. Some wear but nothing that should be a concern. This should fit most all the Hercules and Economy engines 2-1/2hp to 12hp. Mounts to the engine with two bolt holes 2 apart on center. The bolt that is holding the speed control lever on is not original. Most items will go out faster though. I have many good parts and pieces I will be listing in the next few months. I try to do a very good job of listing everything I sell in a very accurate manner to explain all the good and bad points with the pictures and in the description. So if someone doesn’t pay I will ban them from my listings and also tell all my friends who also sell engine parts on here who to watch out for. Very nice vintage steam engine governor. Add to your engine to limit RPMs or repurpose and add some real authenticity to your project! Every piece spins, moves or rotates easily as intended. You can spin between your hands and the weights will move outward as designed to increase resistance on the rotating assembly thereby limiting overall RPM. Included is a period correct brass bearing assembly and brass plug. Notice the brass oil plug is same stye as found on the injector or lubricators. Disassembles completely with ease. Here is a very neat looking governor that is off of a Foos Type S Wipe Spark hit and miss gas engine. It seems to be in great shape and ready to use on an engine or put on shelf in your man cave! There may be an old gas weld repair to the base in the area of the mounting bolts. It spins nice and freely and doesn’t seem to have any wear. Please take a look at the pictures and see if you need it. Two mounting holes about 1-1/4 apart on center. The two mounting pins are about 1′ apart on center. About 7″ tall, the round wood base is about 6-3/4″ in diameter. Spins very easily and has no wear. May have been repaired at its base but it looks really good. Most items will go out faster though.
