Original Vintage Old Matched Set Of 4 Heavy Duty Cast Iron 5 Spoke Wheels Hit & Miss Gas Engine Maytag / Briggs Cart / Steam Punk Industrial Truck. Very nice set to make a hit miss gas engine truck, with smaller diameter front wheels that would turn under plank or skids. Front wheels are 6 dia. With a 1 7/8″ face and rear wheels are 8″ dia. With a 1 7/8 face. The axle hole is 1 3/16 diameter. They all have grease zerk. No cracks welds or repairs. Nice matched set to make a small to medium size engine truck for a Maytag / Briggs or other small hit & miss engine or you steam punk cart or table. This is a rather hard to find very early style “heavy pattern” 2 1/2hp hit and miss gasoline engine made by the John Lauson Manufacturing Company in New Holstein, Wisconsin. It is one of the earliest styles as it has the cylinder and crankcase cast in one piece. It is ignitor fired and is a true hit and miss gas engine. It is in good condition for it’s age with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of other than the fuel saver tab needing to be straightened out. This should be a very simple project. The engine turns over nicely and has good compression even after sitting for a few years. It looks to have some original paint under the repaint. The flywheels run true and the bearings and gearing all seem to be in great shape. This engine would benefit from an unrestoration or a proper restoration but displays quite nicely as it is. The gas tank is cast into the base. It has a very nice heavy cast brass serial tag on it. This is a very early engine that doesn’t turn up very often! It has nice lines to it and would be a fine addition to your early hit and miss engine collection or display. Other than a fuel line, gas, a battery and coil this engine shouldn’t take much to make noise! The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it. I can deliver this for free to LeSueur, MN, Baraboo, WI, Portland, IN, or Coolspring, PA, engine shows or swap meets later this year. I have a forklift to load if you choose to pick it up. This engine is hard to find with a sub base. It is sitting on an original Associated trucks. Has a brass base magneto but not sure if works. I took the magneto off and stored in a climate control building. Engine has not run for 10 years, no cracks or breaks. Was repainted several years ago.
