This is a real nice old cast iron pressure dome for a hot air engine or water pump of some sort. I think it is for a Rider Ericsson hot air engine as it came from an estate where one lived. It measures about 11 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter at its largest. The threads are about 2 5/16 inches in diameter. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of and I think it is ready to be used on an engine or other project. The pictures tell the story. These original pressure domes don’t turn up very often and they would be quite an undertaking to reproduce them so if you need one don’t miss your chance on it! Make your life a little easier, get that engine on wheels and quit dragging it around. Here is a set of cast iron parts that will take a lot of the work and all of the welding out of making a wheelbarrow style cart for your engine. Included are one pair of bolsters with axle mounting hardware, two 8″x2″ six spoke wheels and two handle/support legs. Bolsters are 3 tall and will allow you to make a nice heavy duty cart for engines up to 275 pounds. The only parts needed to complete the cart are common 3/4 pipe for the axle, engine mounting rails, nuts and bolts. Cast iron will give an antique look many prefer over fabricated strap steel and help your engine really stand out at the next show. This is a real nice old headlight for a railroad locomotive. It is very unusual in that it is mostly cast iron construction. The housing and bonnet are all cast iron and the mounting framework is steel. It has a great look to it and is in excellent condition for it’s age with no cracks, breaks, or repairs other than the pivot pin in the hinge for the lens and the nut that holds it closed. It is also missing a small portion of one of the side lens retainers but this would be an easy repair and doesn’t affect anything the way it is. This light is quite large measuring about 23 inches wide, 22 inches deep, and 18 inches tall. As you can see I wired a temporary cord onto it. It lights up just as it should. The wires coming out of the housing are old and hard and should probably be replaced but it does work the way it is. The temporary cord I will keep for my next project. It has had the original glass locomotive number panels that go in the side frames replaced with masonite panels. It is extremely bright and really lights up the neighborhood at night! It has “GN” casting numbers and I don’t know which railroad it originally came from. If you do please educate me. I do know that lights like this are. Extremely difficult to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one don’t miss your chance on this one. It will likely be a long time before another one turns up and it probably won’t be this nice. I can also deliver it for free to LeSueur, MN, Baraboo, WI, Portland, IN, or Coolspring, PA, swap meets or engine shows next year. The pictures tell the story. This is a rather hard to find original cast iron cone type muffler for a Hercules or other hit and miss or throttle governed gas engine. It is in original condition with non cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind. It is about 10 3/8 inches in diameter and about 4 1/2 inches “thick”. It has 2 inch NPT threads and they are in great shape. These original cast iron mufflers are often missing on engines. They are rather tough to find in the wild or even at swap meets and they really set an engine off! If you’ve been looking for one to complete a restoration here’s your chance. Here is a exceptionally nice and original 2hp headless Witte Iron Works hit miss engine. It still retains the majority of its original 3 color paint scheme. Inside of the crankcase, connecting rod, crank cheeks and crank guard are red. The valve chest, mixer, exh lever, cam gear and detent blade are silver. The rest is dark green with bare metal flywheel rims. I seriously doubt this engine has ever spent a night outdoors. Mechanically this engine is like new. It is tight, no slop or wear anywhere on it. Compression is excellent, flywheels run true. Starts very easy and runs fantastic. The fuel tank looks to be a new reproduction, oiler is not original but is a vintage piece and does not look out of place. This would be an earlier Iron Works engine however the tag is missing. Luckily Witte stamped the s/n on crankshaft and it is 16387 which would make this a 1914 engine. The 1 under the keyway is not part of the s/n but an assembly number. Both gib keys are also stamped with # 1. There are no frost cracks on this engine however it has had some repair. The exh lever has an old braze repair which appears well done and solid. There is also a piece missing from the lower piston skirt. No repair was attempted here, it does not affect how the engine runs at all. There is also what appears to be a copper brace fitted around back end of cylinder. I’m not sure what to make of this, there is original green paint all over the outside of it which would mean this was added at the factory. I did not see any obvious signs of damage around this area. The piston fits very nicely in the bore, there is no clunk or knock from this area. I have not removed the piston or disassembled the engine in any way to investigate further. I’ve put about 20hrs run time on this engine with zero issues. The only thing it could really use is a proper iron works muffler and a better set of skids. Engine weighs about 300lbs uncrated.
