I believe this is a pump jack for a water well. It would have provided reciprocating motion to the well cylinder below it. It is in good original condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs and stands about 24 inches tall. It has quite a bit of it’s original red paint and has a groove in the flywheel for a 1 inch wide belt. It turns over and has a cover on the back that would show the inner workings if it were made out of Lexan. This would be a great item if you wanted to build a can crusher or other back and forth motion item to run with your hit and miss gas engine at the shows. I can’t find a makers name anywhere on it but it does say “Patent Pending” on it. The pictures tell the story. I have a rare american railway appliance company, (ARACO) self contained oilwell pump jack. It has been in our family since 1979 when my father brought it from the oil fields of oil city Penn. The photos i found show it without an engine back then, but my father had two upright air cooled ARACOs as well so i do not know why it was never put together with an engine. I have since brought it to NC from WI with hopes of putting a boviaird and seyfang engine on it to display, but the base of the engine is totally different so it is time for some one to enjoy it and hopefully put an engine on it. A very tough item to find as there is only alittle info on the ARACO itself. What you see is what i have. I think a 6 I beam and some weights would make it look complete. There is one lower piece with a crack and a iron repair to make it operational. It would look better to braze the crank and remove the brace for show, but that is for the next person to decide. The engine mount base holes are 6 3/4″ x 13 1/2″ and are threaded. The overall length is 5′ 2″ width is 27 1/2″ and height is 54. Weighs around 1000 lbs. This is a real nice old rotary belt driven centrifugal pump. It was made by Red Jacket in Iowa and is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind. It turns over very smoothly and would work great to move the cooling water of a large hit and miss gas engine. It stands about 9 1/2 inches tall and is about 10 inches long. The outside of the vane housing is about 8 1/2 inches in diameter. It is probably called an 8 inch pump. It mounts with four slots and has a v-belt pulley on it. This could easily be changed to a flat belt pulley if you so choose. The pipe threads are 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 inches and are in great shape. This could be a very useful pump in the hit and miss engine world, either for cooling or for a water pump display run by an engine. The pictures tell the story. This is a rather unusual deep well, double reduction cast iron well pump jack made by Nelson Bros in Saginaw, Michigan. It is in good original condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs other than 2 chipped teeth that I have pointed. The teeth seem to have very little wear anywhere on them and I don’t think this jack has seen much use. It is stuck but should free up with some heat and a little elbow grease. It is marked on the back of the disc with the Nelson Bros name. It stands about 22 inches tall and would make a fantastic display piece for your early hit and miss gas engine display or working pumpjack display. Oddball pumpjacks like this hardly ever turn up in the wild or even at swap meets anymore so if you’ve been looking for one don’t miss this one. The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it!
