This is a really nice original “Baby Lauson” hit and miss gas engine. It was built by the John Lauson Manufacturing Company in New Holstein, Wisconsin. It is the smallest of the engines that they built and an extremely hard to find size. It is the earlier version of their engines being spark plug fired and a “heavy pattern” design. It is in great original condition as can be seen. It has lots of original paint and pinstriping on it yet. It does have a few flaws like the brazed head (which looks worse than it probably actually). The fuel mixer is not original but a retrofit early Associated mixer which does the job. There is an authentic reproduction cast iron muffler that needs to be machined that goes along with the sale. This engine is the 1 horsepower size but is a little later after the company rerated them to 1 1/2hp. It has very heavy flywheels on it and has good compression. It has some general overall wear consistent with an engine of this vintage but nothing real excessive. I’ve never run the engine but a previous owner showed it some 20 years ago. It shouldn’t take much to make noise with it again. It will most likely be an upgrade for your engine and it would be a fine addition to any collection of nice original engines! Remember, they’re only original once! It’s been several years since a Baby Lauson was for sale and it wasn’t a nice original like this one so don’t miss your chance.
