Old VACUUM ROTOR Dayton Flame Licker Hot Air Engine Toy Hit Miss Steam Model

This is a pretty nice original and very hard find Vacuum Rotor engine commonly called a “flame-licker” made by the Rotor Corporation of America in Dayton, Ohio. It is fresh from an early engine and mechanical toy collectors estate It seems to be in good condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see. It turns over nicely and everything seems to move as it should. It has a good amount of original paint and plating on it and also has the original whistle which is usually missing. It is missing the flame hood which should be pretty easy to make and also the wick in the burner. This should be pretty easy to find or make something work. It measures about 4 1/2 x 9 x 6 1/2 inches tall. It has a 4 1/2 inch flywheel on it. It would be a great addition to your early mechanical toy collection or hot air collection. These original are awfully tough to find in the wild anymore so don’t miss your chance on it. The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it. The item “Old VACUUM ROTOR Dayton Flame Licker Hot Air Engine Toy Hit Miss Steam Model” is in sale since Thursday, March 16, 2017. Please note my excellent feedback and SATISFACTION GUARANTEE. Here is a listing for a Dayton Vacuum Rotor demonstrator flame licker engine. The small valve timing disk came of the original shaft, and it has been neatly repaired with a replacement shaft. I have put cold water in the cooling recesses, and tried a variety of valve timings (the disk can be rotated to change timing,) but I can’t get it to stay running. The piston moves freely and pulls hard against the closed valve, so I’m guessing there is a trick I don’t know. Maybe one of the two adjustment valves on top has a stuck check ball or something. The photos show a dirty cork sitting on the top recess, that may be used to keep fuel from evaporating by putting it in place of the burner. ANS WERS to the most common questions. A vintage flame licker toy steam engine in “as found” condition. This item has some age to it and is extremely well made. Piece has not been tested. Mounted on a piece of wood with a heavy medal base with a dark finish. All of the other parts are either brass or nickel plated. The mechanism works freely. There is a funnel and a burner fount. The fount is marked “made in italy”. Just a very nice piece of mechanical age art!!! The base measures 9 1/8″ in length by 6″ deep by 4 3/4 high to the top of the flywheel.
