Up for your consideration is a Machinist built hit & miss model engine from castings. This item is a bit dirty from sitting on my shelf for many years and in need of a new owner with the time to add paint and finishing details. The engine appears to be complete, but will need a set of wood skids, fuel tank and low tension ignition coil to get up and running. Please look closely and let the photos illustrate the condition and quality of machining. The engine is 14″ tall, 9 1/2″ wide and had 8 flywheels. Built by a retired tool maker with 50 years of experience in very precision tolerances. Has polished brass gas tank. Made from billit aluminum, cast iron flywheels. 750 bore and a. 3 1/2diameter fly wheel. Engine is 4 1/2″wide 5 1/4″ long. The oak base is 71/4 x 10 5/8. Overall hight is 8 9/16 to top of oiler. From what I can gather, this is some type of steam engine model. I know nothing about them. I bought it with the intention of finishing/getting it running at some point. I have no idea of the origin of the open crankcase design cast iron block. It has what I think is B C Co. Utica, NY” on one side of the block, and “No. 10 on the other. A friend of mine told me that it might originally be a block from a very old compressor. It has a cast iron crankshaft, a steel piston with 3 rings, and a bronze connecting rod. The bore is 1 1/2″ and the stroke is about 2 1/2″. The cylinder extension or chamber appears to be bronze, and the head appears to be brass. It has a couple of 1/8 pipe thread fittings for copper tubing installed. It has brass oilers on the bearings and the main oiler that lubes the cylinder and piston is a Lunkenheimer type but has no name on it. The engine itself is about 11″ long and about 6 1/2″ wide. It is about 10 tall including the wooden stand and oiler. I didn’t weigh it, but it’s fairly heavy for it’s size. I don’t know for sure how these things work, but I think it needs some more plumbing/porting/modification to operate as a live steam engine. It rotates smoothly as it should and has compression. I have no idea where the previous owner/builder was going with this. I haven’t done anything to it besides clean and lube it. It’s just a really cool, attractive piece that would even function well just sitting on display and having the flywheel spun every once in a while.
