1919 Antique Monitor hit and miss engine, restored.. Uses a Model T coil, and 6 volt lantern battery, very easy to start, and runs great!! Does come with the nice Iron Wheel Cart… I believe its 5 1/2 horse, but not completely sure.. This was the old man’s escape back in time.. He got much satisfaction and relaxation tinkering around with this old jewel… It was well taken care of! The engine is also equipped with the original Monitor clutch pulley, which works just as it should. The serial number of the engine is #13331. This engine is as untouched and unmolested as you will find. It is sitting on the factory cart which is in excellent shape with no repairs, it still even has the original wood pull handle! The engine is mechanically excellent, compression is about as close to perfect as you will find. The original paint and pin-striping on the engine is still very nice, I would say this engine retains 80% of its original paint. The lid for the battery box is also missing. The only other very minor thing to mention, is somebody put a tin cover over the hopper opening to prevent splashing, which I removed, but they drilled and tapped two holes to secure the tin. It would be very easy to thread a couple bolts into the holes and grind them flush (or just leave the holes as they are). Other than those three very minor things, this engine is about as nice as you would want to find an engine in its work clothes. Has a nice working, correct ball check oiler on it. I ran the engine for over 8 straight hours today with no issues! Gas tank has no leaks, and there are no water leaks either. This engine even has the original splash shield on it yet, and original built in crank handle! Very unique engine with a rocker arm that operates both the intake and exhaust valves. This engine is show ready. Feel free to ask questions. This engine can be picked up here for no charge, we are 100 miles north of Detroit. Up for sale or offers here is a vintage Monitor model VJ engine with pump jack and Red Jacket hand pump. As far as I can tell, you have everything you need here to make a working well pump model powered by the Monitor VJ engine. Engine appears complete, but it has been sitting for years. This is one of the projects dad just never got to and now he is working on model engines and moving the big cast iron ones out. This would make a great display to set up on a wash tub and have a working well pump at a show. I don’t know how much the engine needs to get it going, but I don’t think it would be anything major, probably a good fuel system cleaning and some fresh oil and a hot buzz coil. I don’t see and CBWs that need attention. Like I said, been sitting out of the elements in the she for the last 25 years, not sure when it last ran. I have a hoist and can assist with loading. If my price is too high, shoot me an offer. I take all reasonable offers and even some unreasonable ones. This is a real nice original cast iron clutch pulley for a larger Monitor hit and miss or throttle governed gas engine made by the Baker Manufacturing Company in Evansville, Wisconsin. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind and even has some original red paint on it yet. Everything works as it should and there doesn’t seem to be very much wear anywhere on the pulley. The pulley has a 6 1/2 inch face and is 24 inches in diameter. It mounts to every spoke of the flywheel with holes 7 inches apart on center. It should fit the 8, 11, and 15hp engines and probably fits other sizes of Monitor engines and possibly other makes as well. Please measure your engine to be sure it works for your application. It will fit on any engine with an adapter plate. These original bigger clutch pulleys are next to impossible to find in the wild or even at swap meets and they really set an engine off! They also make it much easier to run belt driven implements with your engine. If you’ve been looking for one to complete a restoration here’s your chance. This one is ready to be put to work on an engine or put into your inventory for a spare. The pictures tell the story. I have thoroughly looked the engine over and there are NO cracks, breaks or welds. Very unworn, zero slop in the detent, cam gear has no back and forth movement, no endplay in the crank at all… Flywheels run perfectly true. Intake valve has some crud behind it, just needs to be popped a few times or maybe lapped in, easy to take the valve chest off and do that. The freeze plugs are both out, just needs new ones installed before you put water in the hopper. NO water jacket cracks. Original tin crank guard. Original nameplate, battery box, and nice large correct pulley. Could use a shim added to the rod cap, the engine would coast longer, its a little tight how they have it. This was taken out of a barn down south in the 1970′s I believe, and I’m quite sure this engine hadn’t ran in 50+ years until today. If your in the market for a large Monitor, this is as nice of an untouched engine as you could ask for. Original skids and gas tank, which doesn’t leak! Feel free to ask questions.
