Here’s a nice older restoration 5 HP Baker Mfg Monitor horizontal engine. We traded for this engine just the way it is about 20 years ago. We ran it a few times when we got it, and it’s been sitting in the barn ever since. It’s a nice straight engine. I don’t see anything broken or damaged on it. I believe it has the original muffler. The best part is it’s on its original factory transport. It has a nice Michigan oiler & Lunkenheimer mixer. Overall it’s a nice old engine that should make a nice showpiece. Monitor hit and miss gas engine. I believe that this engine was manufactured somewhere around 1915. This is a nice engine. It runs really well and I sort of hate to part with it but my interests have changed and it is just sitting in my shop and not getting out to be run and shown as it should. I restored this engine several years ago and it still looks rather nice. The engine is not on an original cart but is a nice cart none the less. I guess that means the muffler looks good. The ignition for this engine uses a buzz coil and battery. These two items are not included with the engine. If you need a buzz coil I can make one available if necessary. Monitor hit and miss gas engine. I believe that this engine was manufactured somewhere around 1915. This is a VERY NICE engine. It runs really well and I sort of hate to part with it… Okay I really hate to part with it but my interests have changed and it is just sitting in my shop and not getting out to be run and shown as it should. I restored this engine several years ago and it still looks real nice and most would not consider repainting this engine if they were to have it in their collection. The engine is sitting on the original cart that is the correct cart for this engine. The cart too is in very good shape. I will point out the the muffler on this engine is a reproduction muffler that is off of a 6 h. It should have a ball type muffler. The ignition for this engine uses a buzz coil and battery. These two items are not included with the engine. If you need a buzz coil I can make one available if necessary. This is a rather scarce if not rare original 1hp Monitor farm engine made by the Baker Manufacturing Company in Evansville, Wisconsin. It is the early version with the canteen style gas tank and spark plug straight up. It is in excellent original condition and retains a large portion of it’s original paint as can be seen. It has very little wear on the gearing or in the bearings. It turns over nicely with good compression and although I haven’t run it I’m sure it won’t take much to make noise. The flywheel has a chipped crank holder as I’ve pointed out and the intake valve cage has a crack through one of the mounting holes. Neither of these issues will affect the engine running but I wanted to point them out. Included in the sale is a replacement flywheel with a good crank holder and also a valve cage if you’d like to replace them. I can deliver this for free to Baraboo, WI, Portland, IN, or Coolspring, PA, later this year. It can also be picked up here. I can be reached at 262 573 1931 if you’d like to talk about it. This engine is in great shape, only negative thing I can say, is that the crank handle in the flywheel is missing, which is only a bent piece of steel with a wood handle, would be an easy thing to make. Engine is just as easy or easier to start by turning the flywheel. Other than that, this engine is totally complete and show ready. Good compression, and it starts right up with no trouble every time. Has the original nameplate on it yet, as well as the cast iron gas tank with correct gas fittings. No gas or water leaks, and no cracks breaks or welds! I have the engine slowed down a lot in the video, if you want it to hit harder and coast longer, just tighten the nut on the governor spring. These little Monitors are out there, but you don’t see one running at every show! This engine just needs a new owner and a show to take it to, NO tinkering required.
