Original late 1890s / early 1900s Ernst & Plank stationary gasoline engine toy made in Nuremberg, Germany. Ernst Plan is known for making numerous variations of steam engine toys and magic. This is a much rarer 4 cycle gasoline engine toy model, that was runs off a torch and hot tube ignition system. Model has its original white porcelain hot tube and tin chimney. This hot tube is heated via the brass torch that is lit with a match and fueled by pipping from the external fuel tank. This model is made of numerous materials to include cast iron, brass, copper and tin. This is a very nice example of this model that wonderfully shows the original construction and materials. It has a very nice patina and aged look to it. It has what I believe is the original serial number on the base in white paint “No 167″ just below the belt pulley. It also comes with the original instructions card, I have never seen another original instructions card with the other Ernst Plank engines I’ve seen before. It also has the original fuel tank / base that come apart in two pieces. Not sure if these are supposed to be glued together or what? It is missing some original parts, most notably the original rocker “V” shaped rocker arm which operates the intake and exhaust valves on either side of the engine. I had a reproduction rocker arm that has turned out very nicely so far. It could use some grinding along the edges, a pin to hold it in place on the bottom of the engine, and two screws to make it complete. Or you could leave the engine without one if you just want it as a display piece. It is also missing some of the original pipping, fuel tank lid, and bits and pieces. You can reference the picture in the instructions card to see what all it originally came with. I’ve followed Ernst Plank engines like this for years and most are found missing pieces. This one is about as complete as I’ve seen. You could utilize a “parts” engine to complete this engine or have the missing parts made. Or display as is. I’ve priced this engine accordingly based on its condition. This is the nicest looking of the engines I’ve seen, but that’s just my opinion. Up for sale is a very nice restored Maytag Model 72, Antique hit miss Gas Engine. The flywheel has serial # 988929 stamped on it so it was in production 1946. Painted with original Maytag black automotive paint. The skids you see under my motors go with the engine. I have been restoring these engines for over 10 years. I also restore Maytag wringer washers and put Maytag motor’s on them as well. This engine was completely taken apart and SAND blasted BEAD blasted cleaned and painted the original Maytag green paint. I take a lot of pride in these motors as you can see in my pictures. Lot of guys likes to copy my work so I have a trade mark that I can only tell that it is one that I had done. As you can see this engine is complete and not missing any parts such as the pulley and air cap. It has new rings, condenser and spark plugs and plug wire with new ends. I also honed out the Cylinder jug. I do not paint the flywheels like some people I just polish them up nice. After putting it all back together I ran two tanks of fuel through it and it runs just fine. I like to run my engines that much so I know it will run great and help seat the rings a little for you. All my carburetor’s get rebuilt with all new and correct parts. Then I put on a set of real nice WATER TRANSFER DECAL that I had made and sell. NOT those NASTY sticky fly by night cheap decals. The coil is good and has hot nice spark. I have a lot of people will send me a motor to restore for them as well. All it needs now is fuel and you can start it with your hand, it is that easy to start. The kick pedal will be removed so you will need to put it back on. I use foam spray to pack the motor and it takes a lot. Please read below pictures. I will start packing the engine and it takes about 5 days to pack it so the foam spray can dry. This engine is from a estate sale, so I know no history of it, but it looks to have been restored. It has been painted, wrong green, it’s a metallic green. Checking it out, has good compression, nice bright spark, carb had right adjustment. Gas tank from what I can see has no rust. Tried to get a picture of inside. Fresh gas mixture and a little coaxing with a starter drill it fired up. Tried several more starts with kicker, started each time after 5 kicks.
