There are no breaks or repairs that we see in this Motsinger Auto Sparker. It turns over freely and the fly ball governor functions properly. It still has its original paint with pin striping (see pictures). We were able to see some voltage output on our meter when we hand cranked the pulley. NICE ORIGINAL MOTSINGER AUTOSPARKER FOR A HIT & MISS GAS ENGINE. It’s getting harder and harder to find them this nice any more and this autosparker retains a lot of its original paint. It was connected to a battery and it spun as it should. There are no cracks, breaks or welds. Almost all of my items are used, vintage, and/or antique. Looks to have never been messed with, all the original wires are intact and cloth covering on the coils is all intact as well. I hooked it up to a 6v battery to see if it would spin, and the armature started to turn just a little but wouldn’t keep going. I took the brass cover off and discovered one of the four brushes is completely missing, so I’m sure that’s most, if not all that is wrong with it. Very unworn, looks to be in near perfect shape, no welds or issues. Commutator looks like brand new, NO wear grooves from the brushes, or anything like that. This is one of the nicest Motsingers I’ve seen in a while, lots of original paint and patina, it has NEVER seen the elements. Only thing I see missing is the friction wheel, which are fairly easy to find, or you can make one if you had to. These Motsingers are not very easy to find, especially in this condition, so if you’ve been looking for one don’t pass it up. I’ll let the pictures tell the story, and they really don’t do it justice either. Feel free to ask questions! The auto sparker is patented on feb 6 1900 the last patent is march 10 1903.. From what i can find out it is for assisting starting up old stationary gas engines, i believe. This one is missing a bunch of parts that i can surmise from searching the internet. The good points are that it exists and the arbor spins freely and it is not too beat up. And according to what i have found. This example of, the auto sparker has the original leather fly/pulley wheel. The previous owner used this example as a display. The previous owner mounted it on a metal plate and the eye hook he hung it from the ceiling joints in the garage.. The auto sparker is untested. I do not know if it works. Please see pictures for condition and what parts are and are not present. Any information will be appreciated. This auto sparker weighs about 18 pound as pictured.
