This is a VERY hard to find original Bosch ZU4 4-cylinder base mount magneto. It was used on some of the Hart Parr tractors and portable engines and probably had other 4-cylinder applications like Crossmotor Case tractors and some early cars and trucks. It is in great shape with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. It is clockwise rotation and the impulse works as it should. It turns over very nicely and seems to have very little wear in the bearings or the impulse. Everything seems to work as it should. It has good magnetism and puts out a nice blue spark on all four leadouts. Everything inside the points cover looks to be in great shape. It mounts on a 2 inch square bolt pattern and the mounting threads are in great shape. These original ZU4 magnetos are almost impossible to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one for an authentic restoration here’s a really nice one. The oiler is numbered No. There are patent date of 1877 thru 1881. There is no indication as to its capacity. One of the sight glasses is missing. Valves open and close. There are scuffs, dents and one larger dent that can be seen in pic. The top valve housing has some solder worked around itpic. Bottom valve to the top of the 45 is 10 1/4. It is 7 across. The oiler is numbered 510505. There is no indication as to its capacity. I would guess its a cup or so. The sight glass is good with no chips. Valves and valve stems are good. They were packed with old pieces of string to replace missing gaskets. I removed the string. The bottom valve has a good gasket in it. I do not know its working state.
