Essex Hot Air Engine. This is a great early hot air engine. This engine is in excellent mechanical condition it is complete with no damaged or missing parts. The moving parts of this engine seem to have very little wear and it turns over very smoothly. I have never tried running the engine but based on experience with other antique hot air engines I have no doubt that it would start and run nicely if hooked up to a proper fuel source. This engine is just about as nice of an untouched original Essex as you are likely to find. The engine has never been cleaned in any way and retains a great deal of its original silver paint. One of the coolest features of this engine the original period wood base nicely carved with the words Hot Air Engine, and name Hilbert Doepp Dec 25 1908. This engine is set up to run on natural gas and has part of the original plumbing including a fancy brass gas valve still attached. One the top side of the engine there is the name Essex and the patent date of March 24 1903. These engines were designed to run a wide variety of small equipment. Here is a very nice igniter for a John Deere E engine. This igniter will fit the 1-1/2hp, 3hp, and 6hp JD Model E engines. It is in great shape and doesn’t seem to have any wear. The small spring on the end is broken and will need to replaced, they are available for a few dollars and they are super easy to change out. Take a look at the pics and see if you need it. Needs the small spring replaced. Mounts to the engine with 2 holes 2-1/2 apart on center. The raised area in the center is about 1-5/8 in diameter. Thanks for looking at this listing! This is an outstanding original example of a Cretors horizontal steam engine that was built in Chicago, IL, and originally used in one of their sidewalk popcorn wagons in the early 1900′s. It is in excellent original condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind that I can see or know of. It is the much harder to find nickle-plated version and measures about 10 x 22 x 11 1/2 inches tall overall. It has it’s original builders tag on the edge and is engine number 9424. It operates smoothly on air and everything movers and interacts as it should. It has the original flyball governor on it which is also marked Cretors. There is some rust on the bedplate but on the rest of the engine the plating is very solid. This is by far the nicest original Cretors that I have seen come to market in many years and would be a fine addition to your early steam engine display or collection. The pictures tell the story. This is an outstanding original example or a two-cylinder Locomobile steam engine for an early horseless carriage. It is in excellent condition with no cracks, breaks or repairs that I can see or know of. It appears to have been mechanically restored by a previous owner who was an industrial engineer and very talented machinist. Everything on it is nice and tight as it should. It turns over smoothly and everything interacts just as it should. It runs very nicely on compressed air as I’ve run it personally. It has the serial number 3893 stamped on it near the crankshaft. It also has “Creetors” stamped in a few places but this is incorrect as it is a Locomobile. As it’s original application is a horizontal engine it measures about 12 1/2 x 26 x 10 inches tall. The previous owner was obsessed with Cretors engines enough that he stamped this engine to be one, too, but didn’t even spell it correctly. This could be removed is you so choose. This engine has the original water pump on it as can be seen. It has a brass/bronze frame and displays very nicely! This is by far the nicest original Locomobile that I have seen come to market in many years and would be a fine addition to your early steam engine display or collection or an even better addition to your Locomobile car to complete a restoration! . All of the rebuild work seems to have been done! The stand that it is on does not go with the engine (not included in the sale). The pictures tell the story. You won’t be disappointed!
