This is a very hard to find original Sumter B rotary low tension magneto for a hit and miss or throttle governed gas engine. These were used on several high quality engines in the day including Lauson, Alpha DeLaval, IHC, Fairbanks Morse, Otto, Foos, and several others. They were one of the best magnetos built at that time. It is in as found condition and someone has worked on it (or at least had it apart) in the recent past. Most of the fasteners are loose (able to turn). I had it mostly apart and it has some scale on the field pieces which should be easy to clean. It turns over nicely with very minimal rubbing… This would be eliminated with just a bit of cleaning. The bearings have very little wear. The armature looks good. It has some fasteners that have been broken off by a previous owner and could be extracted if you so choose. It mounts on a 2 inch square bolt pattern and the threads look to be usable. This magneto puts out a decent spark but would put out a perfect spark with just a little cleaning and elbow grease. It’s not perfect but it’s a very good start and could be close to perfect with just a little elbow grease! There is a slight chip on the porcelain leadout that doesn’t affect anything and is only cosmetic. These Sumter B’s are incredibly tough to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one don’t miss your chance on this one. It will likely be a long time before another one turns up. It would also make a great spare on the shelf. Let the pictures be your guide. You’ll like it. Small Vintage Antique Hit Miss Gas Engine. Model Sideshaft Tank Cooled Otto. Here is a nice old Engine. I have included many photos to show its as found condition. As can be seen it is missing a few small parts. It turns over freely with no compression. It looks similar to an early Otto engine. It will make a nice addition to your collection. It has 6 inch flywheels and has a total length of 12 inches. Please call if you need additional information. Package will be insured upon request. This is an extremely hard to find original sales catalog for Otto gas engines made in Philadelphia, PA. It measures about 7 1/2 x 10 inches with 32 pages and is dated 1908. It is in good condition for it’s age with some minor soiling and wear but displays very nicely. It has a nice, embossed coversand overall it is nice and HEAVILY illustrated. It covers all of the sizes of gas engines they offered at the time and shows many different configurations. There are some impressive factory photos in it and it has tables of specifications for all of the engines. It also has a unique list of colleges and universities that used OTTO engines as teaching aids in their laboratories. This catalog would be a fine addition to your early industrial library and would look especially nice displayed with your Otto engine at the shows. These original catalogs don’t turn up very often as so many of them lost their battle with the wood stove back in the day so don’t miss your chance on this one as Otto paper hardly ever turns up for sale. Nice Old Lonergans Wine Glass Cylinder Oiler in as found condition. Both of the glasses are intact and without cracks. It is not stamped on the hex but it marked on the top o0f the oiler Lonergan’s Mar. It has been used with moderate wrench marks on its hex. The threads look perfect, with a new set of gaskets and a good cleaning this oiler should be ready to use, Its about 6 1/2 tall and approx. 3 across at the top. Almost all of my items are used, vintage, and/or antique. Each item is described as honestly and completely as possible. Local pick-up is always welcome.
