This is a rather hard to find original Sumter Plugoscillator magneto trip finger for a Fairbanks Morse Z engine. I believe it fits the 3 and 6hp Z engines but may fit others as well. It measures about 5 3/8 inches long overall. It is about 3/4 inch long through the 1/2 inch pivot hole. It is NOS, new old stock with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind and fresh from the unused inventory of an old hardware store. It is ready to be used on an engine. It would also make a great spare on the shelf. Let the pictures be your guide.

This is an original cam gear and cam shaft for an early 3hp Fairbanks Morse Z gas engine. It is for the earlier style engines that used a Sumter Plugoscillator magneto for ignition so do your homework to be sure it is for your application. It may also work on the rotary magneto engines but I think the cam lobe may be different. It is in good used condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind that I can see or know of except that an addition was made to the side of the cam to convert the engine to spark plug ignition. This protrusion could easily be removed. There is some were in the high spot on one edge of the cam that could also be remedied quite easily. The gear measures about 7 3/16 inches in diameter with a 5/8 inch face. It is abou 3 inches long through the 3/4 inch bore. It has 70 teeth and they are in great shape. If you’ve been looking for one to complete a restoration because yours is missing, broken, or repaired here is a decent one. The pictures tell the story. For your consideration is the original igniter/mag bracket for a 1919 FAIRBANKS MORSE 1 1/2hp Z SUMTER PLUGOSCILLATOR Mag. It is in original condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. It mounts to the side of the head with two holes 2-3/8 inches apart on center. Everything moves as it should. The magneto mounts with two holes 2 inches apart on center. This engine was produced by Fairbanks Morse for less than one year. These 1-1/2hp brackets are much harder to find than the 3 and 6hp size. The last pic is a screenshot from a vid of testing it with a battery and coil to show that it works when the hammer trips. Here is a rather scarce 1 1/2hp Fairbanks Morse Z with Sumter Plugoscillator ignition. Built only in 1919. Excellent condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. New gas tank at that time. Outstanding compression and very little wear anywhere on it. We put fresh gas in the starting side and it fired right up and ran nice! Has the original oiler, pulley, muffler, and serial tag on top of the head. This is a throttle governed engine that should make a great little engine for someone. The cart it is sitting on is not included. I can deliver for free (or a cold beverage) to Baraboo, WI, Portland, IN, or Coolspring, PA, later this year. Scarce 1 1/2hp Fairbanks Morse Plugoscillator engine with serial tag on the head. These were made for about a year. Barn fresh from an old collection. Engine is loose but will need some attention. Rod bearing is rough as is crank gear. Another set of flywheels on a crankshaft with an excellent gear goes with it. The cam gear needs a bushing. It is missing the mag and bracket but these are findable parts… It is on the original skids but will need a new gas tank. There are two threaded holes in the hopper that need to be filled but there are no other breaks or repairs that I can see or know of. This could be a pretty good engine with just a little elbow grease! This engine should be a pretty straightforward project and would be a fine addition to your early hit and miss type engine collection or Fairbanks Morse display. The pictures tell the story. Here is a Sumter mag set up as the Plugoscillator ignitor bracket for the earlier ignitor fired Fairbanks-Morse model Z engines. It will fit the 3 & 6 hp sizes only. I believe this is the #14 Sumter. It’s in great shape, though, no cracks or repairs. It is for sale so if you want it, make an offer…. Opinions don’t pay the bills :o. Nota Bene: the last pic is of several mags I have.
