Old PICKERING 2 1/2 Steam Governor Tractor Portable Hit Miss Gas Engine Magneto

This is a VERY hard to find original Pickering 2 1/2 inch vertical governor for a steam engine or tractor or gas engine. It is in used condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind that I can see or know of except for the weight assembly as can be seen and the locking knob. A suitable replacement weight assembly is included and needs the limiting u-bolts repaired but this should be pretty straightforward. The horizontal shaft is stuck but I doubt very badly as the entire governor is quite oily. The gears look to be in decent shape. The vertical shaft moves as it should and the valve is in the chest and looks good. The governor stands about 27 1/2 inches tall and is called a 2 1/4 Ball Ranger model but is 2 1/2 pipe size which is used on many 20-25hp engines. With some elbow grease this would be a very usable governor. These original larger size governors are almost impossible to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one for an authentic restoration here’s a pretty good one. This is a VERY hard to find original Gardner 1/2 inch vertical governor for a steam engine or tractor or gas engine. It is in excellent used condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs of any kind that I can see or know of. It turns smoothly with very little wear on the gear teeth and only mild wear on the pulley shaft. Everything moves as it should and I believe it would be ready to go to work on an engine. The pipe threads are in good shape. It stands about 12 inches tall overall. These original smaller size governors are almost impossible to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one for an authentic restoration here’s a really nice one. Good looking 10hp Fairbanks Morse Z on factory portable trucks. Engine is in great shape with great compression and runs well. There are no cracks, breaks, or repairs in any of the castings that I can see or know of. The gearing looks to be in good shape and I don’t think it has all that many hours on it. It has a few minor repairs like the tip on the rocker arm, the mounting hole in the crankguard, and the magneto needs some attention. The impulse doesn’t seem to kick out when the engine starts. It also has the wrong magnet on it but works as it is. The engine will need a gas tank as it ran on the gas put in the bowl. It is on very hard to find factory trucks. It seems to have been painted many years ago and has a great old look to it. With just some minor work it would be ready to show all day! I can deliver for free to Coolspring, PA, or several auctions later this year. It can stay here as long as needed as long as it’s paid for. These engines are real workhorses and it’s a lot of engine for the price! The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it! 12Hp Fairbanks Morse Standard Model N Portable Antique Engine. Good Shape with a light restoration from 1970′s. Has most of its original parts. Air start pump and chimney, burner are missing. Original clutch pulley goes with the engine. No cracks breaks or welds are known. Some peening on flywheels. Original fuel and cooling tank, fine tooth standard timing gears. Last run in the 1970′s. Date stamped on the end of crankshaft 7 31 02. One wheel on cart has been fabricated repaired. 1902-12 HP FAIRBANKS MORSE PORTABLE ENGINE , No. Fairbanks Morse early model N factory portable engine with Standard features such as fine tooth timing gears. Engine looks to be in good shape and lightly repainted, no cracks breaks or welds are evident. Flywheels have peening on them. I have seen it before on other engines and could be factory peened? No cracks breaks or welds on flywheels. Brass connecting rod bearings look to be a replacement as is air start valve. Missing air start pump + plumbing, hot tube chimney and burner, one oil well cover and exhaust muffler. Engine is a little stiff from sitting for many years but turns over and feels like it has compression. All parts are free when turned over and flywheels run true. Flywheels approximately 55 dia. Original carriage is in nice condition including original cooling tank and fuel tank. Most pipe fittings look to be original. The left front carriage wheel has been replaced with a fabricated wheel.
