I have here an antique Burnham Union Steam Co. 115969 steam powered pump. Size 6 x 3 x 6. Made in Battle Creek, Michigan. It moves freely when I push the shaft by hand and blows lots of air even when just being turned by hand. This pump was restored at some time but has obviously been used since then. I believe everything is in working condition but I do not know for sure. There are no cracks or breaks. Would be great for Hit & Miss steam engine shows. Feel free to ask any questions. Also I try my best to describe my items as accurately as possible and if I make a mistake I will do my best to fix the problem. Antique Vintage Burnham Union Steam Co. To the lower 48 US States. Thank you for looking! Scale Galloway model Hit and Miss engine. On the color of the engine in the flash indoor photos. The flash makes the color look more orange than it really is. Your computer monitor could also make the color look slightly different. The last outdoor photo is a bit more accurate as this color is more of a red with a slight orange tint. The true color shows up well in the video. I put a lot of work into this one and it sure turned out nice! The full scale Galloway’s are rather large, so at 1/3. Scale this is not a small lightweight engine. The flywheels measure 10.2. The wooden stand is 22 long. Total engine length from the tip of the rocker arm to the back of the gas tank is 21 ½ inches long. It stands 14 ¾ inches tall on the stand and is 12 wide from the outside of the flat belt pulley to the outside of the other flywheel. Below the larger timing gear on the block are two small raised pads cast into the block. One pad has the letters BF on it and the other one has SG1 on it. The date 1998 is on the bottom of the engine. These pads with the letters on them are not on the newer castings. I did some research on who cast this engine and I believe it is a Dick Shiley from Manheim Pa. The engine has a 1.75inch bore with a 3.375 inch stroke. The unfinished castings weigh 80lbs so almost 20 plus pounds needs to be machined off of the raw castings for finishing. I used a original antique Lunkenheimer drip oiler for that authentic look and function. So you need to go to YouTube and type the video description(s) in the search box. Show quality 1/3rd Scale Galloway hit & miss engine. The removed items will be sent in a 2. In this video I messed up and said the wrong thing when talking about the governor setting. Its opposite of what I said… Please keep in mind that a “one of a kind” hand built item like this requires many hours of extensive machine work by a experienced operator. Plus many parts are hand fabricated and finished. I have over two months of working most every day into this one and much of the machine work was already completed. You are encouraged to ask questions should you have any and I will be more than glad to answer in a timely manner. Ignition; The spark for this engine is provided by a “Make Brake” ignition system. This system works by hooking a battery up to a low tension coil. When the contacts inside of the combustion area are closed the coil is charged. When the contacts open quickly a spark is produced. Fuel system; I ran this engine on 87 octane pump gas. I had just a little bit of older Naptha (Coleman camping fuel) to try and it seemed to run OK on that. When that small amount ran out I switched to gas. If you are running regular pump gas, drain out all the gas when you are finished running the engine. A higher octane gas actually could produce less power as the timing should be advanced for a higher octane fuel and changing the timing on this engine is not that easy. The timing is slightly before TDC right now. You can adjust it for your running needs. Keep in mind that too much advance will cause it to knock or kick backwards. The carburetor / fuel-mixer needle adjuster will be kept where I had it for the test running that I did. There is a mark on the adjustment knob so when its turned in the mark is at 12:00. Right now its out slightly less than 1 turn at about the 1:30 position. The adjustment range between lean and flooding it out is small. ¾ of a turn out and it will be lean and at one full turn out you will be flooding it out. If you see any black smoke coming out of the exhaust you are ruining it too rich. The fuel tank has a shut off valve on the bottom. You only need to open this valve no more than ¾ of a turn out. More than one turn out and the threaded area of the needle valve will be coming out of the sealing gasket and fuel will start to form on the bottom of the shut off valve. 1/2 turn open is plenty. The tank is big and it ran for me for about 2 hours on less than ¼ of a tank. The water hopper; Fill it up with water. This keeps the cylinder from overheating. Drain out the water by removing the brass plug once the water has cooled down enough that it wont burn your hand. There is another silver colored plug in the bottom and that one does nothing when its removed. The brass plug is the one that drains out the water. Don t let the engine sit for a long period of time with water in it as rust will form in the lower cooling area where the cast-iron is not painted. It would not hurt anything to spray some WD-40 down in the lower hopper area for storage. NOTE: Like the real full size hit and miss engines, these engines were not designed to run at a high RPM. Running this engine too fast could cause severe damage to the engine and possibly to anyone standing near it. Whats included in the sale; The engine as shown mounted on its display/running stand. The engine has a flat belt pulley custom machines by me, that is crowned in the center. The one way starter bearing that can be mounted in the pulley is included along with the 1/2 drill chuck bit that fits into the bearing. I make no guarantee on how this will run for you. You should have some mechanical experience with small engines to get this to run properly. ALL SALES ARE FINAL! The total dry weight of the Galloway is 63lbs. The heavy duty plastic container the engine will be packed up in weight 10lbs. That takes me over 70lbs for the container not including all of the packing materials I will be using. Those items weigh almost 20lbs and will allow me to keep the main package under 70lbs. I made a video showing you how to put it back together correctly. Go to YouTube and type this in their search box and it should bring up the assembly video or simply do a web search for this video title… Please note that I mess up in the video around the 1:00 mark when talking about the governor speed setting. Putting less tension on the spring causes the weight to move out sooner at a lower RPM thus the engine will run slower. Increasing the tension the engine will need to run faster till the exhaust valve gets locked open. I said this backwards in the video. This is a running, gasoline powered scale model engine that comes with no instructions or guarantees what so ever!! Do not stick your finger or other body parts like hair or clothing in a rotating / moving mechanical assembly!! The new owner assumes all responsibilities and liabilities to himself/herself and others with this engine. This is an “adult collectible” item not to be operated or played with by children. I make no clams to it being safe as it is a antique scale model reproduction of a engine that was produced back in the day when no safety guards, air bags, safety warning labels, ect.. Were attached to dangerous products. I make no claims as to how it will run for you as adjustments most likely will need to be made like fuel mixture or governor settings. By purchasing this item you are stating that you have read my whole ad, you understand it and that you agree with the terms and policy’s stated in this ad. You understand that this is a gasoline powered reproduction of a antique engine that was made back in the day before any safety precautions were designed into mechanical devices. I have detailed photos posted. I have a video posted and describe everything to the best of my ability. I encourage asking questions should you have any and I will be more than glad to help. Thank you for looking!! Should you have any questions, please ask. Old Toy Fanning Mill Thresher Salesman Sample Model Hit Miss Engine Powered WOW

This is a very unusual model of a fanning mill or threshing machine toy that likely took hundreds of hours to build! It is fresh from an old engine and mechanical antique collectors estate. It appears to be a fanning mill or grain thresher of sorts. It measures about 8 x 12 1/2 x 10 1/2 inches tall. It has cast iron wheels which are stuck and one is broken as I’ve pointed out. The fan and shaker table are driven by pulleys and moves as they should. It is likely 75-100 years old and possibly more… I just don’t know. It could also be some sort of salesman’s sample. I’ll let you be the judge. The shell is mostly constructed of wood or wood products and it has all old hardware holding it together. It is missing the tongue to pull it and possibly the top if it ever had one. With a little creativity this would be a great addition to your early mechanical toy collection or scale model engine or working display. Old model toys like this are awfully tough to find in the wild anymore so don’t miss your chance on it. It just has a great old look to it! The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it. 1/4 Scale Running Model Reproduction of a 5 H. Galloway Antique Hit and Miss Engine. It’s a NICE one! This one has 8 inch flywheels and from what I know, it is ¼ scale. I have another Galloway that has 10 inch flywheels and that one should be a 1/3. Here are the details on this engine. These are the measurements of the engine only, as if it was not mounted on the cart. It has 8 flywheels. In the posted video I made a mistake and said the flywheels were 7 ½ inches. They are actually 8 inches. It’s 16 inches long from the rocker arm to the back of the fuel tank. The widest part is the end of the crankshaft that sticks out from the flywheels, that makes it 8 ¼ inches wide and it’s 9 ½ inches tall. Measurements of it on the included cart are 25 ½ inches long from the front of the front wheel to the back of the rear cart wheel. The cart is 16 wide to the outside of the cart axles and it stands 16 inches tall from the ground to the top of the water hopper. The cart wheels measure 5 ½ inches. It weighs about 41 pounds. This engine gets its spark from a low tension coil that is mounted in the wooden box on the rear of the cart. It has a scale make brake ignition system that will run on 6 or 12 volts. The wire for powering the ignition system is coiled up around the coil box. A battery is not included. There are more details on the running of this engine listed below. Also a link is is posted that will take you to the video of this engine running. I ran this engine before doing the detail work of cleaning and polishing. So the posted photos were just taken and this is the way you will be receiving it. Many hours of machine work, paint work, polishing, assembly, adjusting and testing goes into producing a high quality scale model like this. A lathe, milling machine, drill press, lots of tools and an experienced operator(s) were needed to finish the rough castings and to fabricate the additional parts required. Having to pay someone for all of the machine work and fabrication involved would cost quite a bit! Whats included in this sale: You get the ¼ scale Galloway as pictured mounted on the all metal scale cart that has metal wheels with spokes. The front axle is fixed to the frame and the rear axle steers the cart. There is a scale wooden moving handle that attaches to the rear steerable axle. It is shown in a couple of the photos. Here is a web link that will take you to the video of this engine running. In this video I said the flywheels are 7 ½ inches. I was not correct as they are 8 inches. Take note in the video about how slow I had this engine running and it did not skip a beat. Most videos of scale engines like this show them running at a much faster speed and they still miss every now and then. I think that running them fast does not them a scale appearance. I first tried starting this engine on some old (had already been opened a few years back) Coleman lantern fuel. It ran but not that smoothly. It then fired right up and ran as you see it in the video. On the fuel mixture, it ran best between ¼ and ½ turn out at the most. Anything over a half a turn and it ran rich. The battery I used is a old 12 volt jell cell type battery that showed about 10 volt when I tested it. The included low tension coil should work on 6 or 12 volts, though I did not have a 6 volt battery to try it. On setting the speed. The governor setting can not be changed while the engine is running as it is mounted on the inside of the left flywheel. My reference for what is left and right would be if you were behind the fuel tank looking towards the front of the engine. Inside of the left flywheel you will see a threaded rod with the adjuster nut on the one end and the governor spring on the other. When turning the nut in, on to the threaded shaft, that increases the spring tension and the engine will run faster. In the video I had the nut all the way out to the end of the threaded rod. On the engine rotation direction. When looking at the side where the left flywheel is mounted. (the push-rod and the ignition are all on the left side) The flywheel rotates clock-wise. I used 10-30 wt. Oil in the drip oilier. Turn the top out about a turn and a half so it forms a drip every once and a while. The crankshaft end caps have grease cups on them. Tighten the top part and it forces grease down in the bearing area. There is a clear synthetic grease in them right now. There is a oil cup on the big rod end. Get some oil up on the wrist pin of the piston. If a part moves against something, oil it! That included the valve stems and the small valve stem that is on the bottom of the fuel mixer. Yes it will get dirty and drip oil when running it, just like the full scale engines do. The photos for this ad were taken after it was run for the video. NOTE: The rocker arm for the exhaust valve is held in place with two pins. One in the center and one on the push-rod end. These two pins are both the same size and they are just pushed in place. If the engine was turned upside-down they could slide out. They have a cotter pin holding on a aluminum spacer on the outside then there is the wheel. The cart wheels are the same on the inside and outside so it does not matter what way they are put back on. I check my emails often and will respond in a timely manor. All sales are final as I will not accept a return on a item like this. NOTE: This is a running reproduction of a antique engine. It is a adult collectible item and is intended to be used by a experienced adult. Just like the original engine, it has no safety guards in place. Loose clothing, long hair or fingers could become caught in any moving part when this engine is running or even being turned over by hand. Use commonsense and keep your fingers especially small fingers! Away from all moving parts! I make no guarantees or clams as to how it will run for you or even if you would be able to get it started. Some mechanical knowledge and experience is needed to run any antique model engine like this. I have clear photos posted of this engine and I have a video posted showing it running. You should have some knowledge of a engine like this, like how to maintain it, keep it lubricated and adjust it if necessary as I provide no instructions other than what is in my videos and written in this ad. No guarantees of any kind are included with a custom hand made, one of a kind adult hobby item like this. This item was listed on Wednesday 3-16-17 and is not pre packaged in advance right now. So should I get a question on the engine where I need to see something or send a photo I can easily do that. Once it’s packed, I wont be able to do that. Should there be any questions, PLEASE ask! This is Naptha (a type of gas) powered scale model engine that comes with no instructions or guarantees what so ever!! Do not stick your finger or other body parts in a rotating mechanical assembly!! The new owner assumes all responsibilities and liabilities to himself/herself and others with this engine. This is an adult collectible item not to be operated or played with by children. I make no clams to it being safe as it is a antique scale model reproduction produced back in the day when no safety guards, air bags, safety warning labels, ect.. Were attached to dangerous products. I make no claims that it will even run as some might not have the mechanical ability to figure it out. By purchasing this item you are stating that you have read my whole ad, you understand it and that you agree with the terms and policy’s stated in this ad. I have detailed photos posted. ½ Scale Running Model Reproduction of a Domestic Side Shaft Antique Hit and Miss Engine. It’s a NICE one! Here are the details on this engine. The engine itself, minus the wooden base is 15 inches long from the tip of the make brake ignition shaft to the fuel fill at the back of the engine. It’s about 11 wide from the outside of the pulley to the end of the crankshaft on the other side. It stands about 16tall from the bottom of the wooden stand to the top of the drip oilier. On the paint job. The cast block was smoothed out so the paint gives a nice smooth appearance. I do not know the year this one was made, but I can tell you that it does have the original paint job on it. There are a few small areas where the paint chipped and was touched up. Mainly around the flywheel hubs and around the head bolts and the area where the make brake contact assembly bolts on to the block. On the color of the engine…. Some of the photos needed to be taken with the flash on in my camera to show detail. All the flash photos make the engine look more red in color than it really is. I think the posted video taken outside in natural light shows the most accurate color. It is a dark brownish type of red, not a bright red like some of the flash photos make it look. The wooden base measures 29 inches long x 7 inches wide and. The flywheels measure 9 inches in diameter. It weighs around 55 lbs. Many hours of machine work, paint work, polishing, assembly, adjusting and testing goes into producing a high quality scale model like this. A lathe, milling machine, drill press, lots of tools and an experienced operator were needed to finish the rough castings and to fabricate the additional parts required. Having to pay someone for all of the machine work and fabrication involved would cost quite a bit! Whats included in this sale: You get the engine as pictured on the wooden stand. What is NOT included: The original 6 volt jell cell battery that I could not get to charge or the white wire I show in the video connected to the battery I used. There is room in the ignition box next to the low tension coil for a small 6 or 12v battery. DO NOT use a Lithium type battery. Either a jell cell, dry cell, Nicad or Nimh should be used. Here is a web link that will take you to the video of this engine running. This is the main ingredient, and possibly the only one in Coleman lantern fuel. I did add a couple of drops of castor oil in with the fuel for upper cylinder lubrication. You can use any high quality two cycle oil. Just go sparingly and keep it around 50:1 at the most. It has, what is called a Make Brake ignition system. How this system works is that there are contact points inside of the combustion chamber. The points close roughly at the bottom of the compression stroke. While the points are closed, the included hand made scale, low tension coil charges with electricity from either a 6 or 12 volt battery. (A battery is not included in this sale) Once the points open at the top of the compression stroke, the voltage in the coil is quickly discharged causing a spark at the contact points and that is what fires the compressed fuel air mixture. The part that you put in a drill is 1/2 (0.500) in diameter so you will need a drill with a ½ inch chuck. After taking the video of this engine running, I installed a scale globe type gate valve for a fuel shut off. (that is shown installed in some of the above photos) Since the fuel tank is in the engine block this is a gravity fed fuel system. When filled with fuel and not running, some fuel would seep out around the fuel mixers adjustment needle. Since you do NOT want to use the mixture needle as a fuel shut off, I added one. On the mixture setting that worked best for me, it started right up with the mixture needle turned out slightly less than ½ a turn as I show in the video. It was a cool winter day when I ran it so the setting that works best for you might be different. One note on the contact points for the ignition. The shaft that rotates the one contact for the points is spring loaded. There is a spring on the shaft. Since this sticks out at the front of the engine. It is possible when you are carrying this engine to push that spring loaded shaft in. This will not hurt anything, but if that shaft also rotates slightly it will not spring back into its position and the points will not make contact and work correctly. When this happens simple push in on the spring loaded shaft and rotate them back into position. Should you need to remove the points for cleaning, this can be easily done by removing one spring, take off the positive wire that is bolted to the one contact point stud and take out the two brass bolts with a 3/8 socket. I needed to grind down the end of the socket a bit to make it a super thin wall socket on the end so it fit over the one brass bolt head. When apart, make sure the contact area of the points line up and lay flat against each other. Remember when putting the wire back on, be careful not to make it so tight that you turn that stud because if you do the points will no longer lay flat against each other. You will note that there is a small O ring around the inner nut. This is to prevent any external spark ark between the shaft spring and that nut because they are close to each other. That would cause a misfire or possibly keep the engine from starting. Reapply a super thin layer of silicone form a gasket when putting the point assembly back on the engine and DO NOT over-tighten the two brass bolts. Remember they are just brass. And DO NOT put any silicone on those bolts as that could prevent that assembly from being electrically grounded to the engine block. I used 10-30 wt. Oil in the drip oilier. Make sure it’s turned on and dripping every once and a while. Put oil on everything that rubs against something!! There are many small oil holes located on this engine. There are spring loaded brass covers that cover oil cups for the crank shaft on the block. There is a hole on the connecting rod end for oil and oil the piston wrist pin plus put some oil on the exposed bottom part of the piston when its at bottom dead center. If it moves, oil it! Yes it will get dirty running it, just like the full scale engines do. The photos for this ad were taken after it was run for the video. I spent a afternoon cleaning everything up. I check my emails often and will respond in a timely manor. All sales are final as I will not accept a return on a item like this. NOTE: This is a running reproduction of a antique engine. It is a adult collectable item and is intended to be used by a experienced adult. No guarantees of any kind are included with a custom hand made, adult hobby item like this. This item was listed on Thursday 2-22-17. After it’s packed I will update this part of my ad and list the package details here. I don’t like to pack in advance in case someone wants to see a photo that I do not have posted or want to know something about the item I need to check on. But when I have a chance in the next week after listing, it will be packed. I know I will be unscrewing the drip oiled for packing because it sticks up above the top of the block. I will start with wrapping the engine in stretch plastic wrap for paint protection. A thin layer of bubble-wrap then cover everything tightly in HD cardboard. That will then be wrapped in heavy duty bubble wrap. More details will be posted here like the container size and weight once everything is packed up. This is a reproduction gas powered scale model engine that comes with no instructions or guarantees what so ever!!
