A real head turner! Rarely seen 2 HP model. Got this beautiful engine with hopes of showing it off, but my work schedule just doesn’t allow it. My friend and I had it running for 230-60 seconds at a time, but the timing, fuel and air need to be adjusted by someone who knows abut these engines. Early old hit and miss gas engine. This engine appears to be about a 2 1/2 hp and is very complete, there is no mag, the bottom side of the hopper is cracked (Jack Frost got to it), the head and valves are very rusty, the governor is made of pot metal and the bracket is badly deteriorated, the flywheels look to be true when it is spun over, the piston has been removed and is rusty. This engine does have some part numbers (as pictured), with the letters “BL”. Take a close look at the pictures. Any help identifying this engine would be greatly appreciated! This engine was found in a scrapyard where I work about 2 months ago, I had intended to restore this engine but I do not have the time and patience for it at this time. If you have any questions, please let me know. This engine is located about 30 minutes north of St. Paul, MN sitting in my parents barn. This engine is an early R&V, Root & Vandervoort. The flywheels measure 14 1/4″ diameter, the piston measures 4″ diameter. There are no cracks or breaks to be found throughout the engine, except for the bottom of the hopper. Bean antique stationary hit and miss era gasoline engine. Hard to find 4 hp Bean gas engine. Engine is loose and has good Wico EK brass magneto. I have not ran engine but should run with little work. I don’t see any visible welds on engine but muffler has been welded. Serial number is 2812. Very neat radiator behind flywheel. Radiator holds water but has been repaired and should be soldered to fix correct. A really neat and unusual engine. Can deliver for free to LeSuer Mn swap or Portland Swap meet for free. It has FB4209 stamped in the block. The base is in perfect shape, but no carb. The pot metal flywheel, and backplate are also in perfect shape, no issues. Somebody had made a tin shroud to put around the fins for better air flow, so there is about 8 or so really small holes drilled and taped in the crankcase where they attatched it, would be very easy to plug them. The only other bad thing, is the head isn’t correct, somebody put a 4 bolt head on it, when the block is a 2 bolt, so they used one of the original holes in the block, and for the other three, they put little gobs of weld on, so they could drill and tap them for the other 3 holes, I think that would also be real easy fix, to take the head off and grind those welds off, and plug the holes. Finding the correct head will be your biggest problem. The last thing to say is, the cast iron flywheel has holes drilled in it as you can see, and there are cooling fins inside the flywheel, The holes, and fins both are most definitely not homemade, they are factory done, being an FB, I’m sure it was one of Briggs ideas for better cooling. The holes being machined on angles, to suck air in. The fins inside the flywheel are machine bent and made, nothing about it is cobbled. If you zoom in on the picture you will see it is a factory done job with the holes and fins, and the rivets that hold the fins on, with original paint overtop of the rivets. Very restorable engine, especially since they are repoping the peace pipe carbs. Feel free to ask questions, these FB’s don’t pop up for sale every day! 7 DAY LISTING – NO RESERVE!!!
