Root & Vandervoort 1 HP Hit and Miss Engine – This is a rather desirable, rare engine in the small 1 HP with skeleton base. Not positive on the year it was made. I believe it was the early teens, and Not positive what model it is, possibly AR. If you have any information that you would like to share send me a message. I have only just looked over the engine for a few minutes, I will tell you what I know. After looking it over it has a somewhat fresh coat of paint on it(last few years). It seemed timed well enough and in order enough to give it a test start. It did start right up and seemed like it would run, but I only ran it for a few moments. It seems like it wasnt latching out properly. It needs some adjustments and It will need new babbit bearings all around, as there is no shims left. The crank has a good amount of pitting on it and it has ok to medium low compression, enough to run. I believe it will also need other various work to make this engine in good running condition, possibly rings or valve work or bushings. It is going to need some work. I think in the right hands this could end up being a very nice collector piece. Seems to be all complete except for the exhaust pipe. I think it will need some new springs they do not seem right. Has a Good Oiler, Good Fuel tank and Pulley. No Cracks or Breaks or Welds that I can see anywhere! This model has flywheels & gas tank that hang below the base. This is an older restoration Root and Vandervoort Triump Line hit and miss gas engine. It is fresh from an old collection where it was tucked away for many years. It sits on a homemade wheelbarrow cart with John Deere wheels. It has a very unusual ignition setup on it with an upside down Wizard magneto with a brass base on it. The engine seems to be in great shape. Everything seems to be nice and tight and there are no cracks, breaks, or repairs anywhere that I can see or know of. It has excellent compression and seemingly very little wear anywhere on it. It has an incorrect fuel mixer on it but this worked just fine for a previous owner. I’m pretty sure that reproduction mixers are available from a gent in Northern Wisconsin. It has a homemade muffler on it that works good. Although I haven’t tried to run it, a previous owner ran it several years ago and it ran great. This would be a nice, fairly scarce engine to add to your early hit and miss gas engine display or John Deere machinery collection. The pictures tell the story. You’ll like it! This is a VERY nicely restored Root and Vandervoort hit and miss gas engine. It is fresh from an old collection where it was tucked away for many years after it was restored. It sits on a factory Root and Vandervoort cart correct for this engine. The wood was all replaced with oak and it has a nice, finger-jointed battery box on it. The engine is in great shape and was gone through by a previous owner. Everything seems to be nice and tight and there are no cracks, breaks, or repairs anywhere that I can see or know of. It has excellent compression and very little wear anywhere on it. The governor weights and detent parts were replaced at the time of restoration as the originals, like most of them, were damaged. It has the John Deere Plow Company serial tag, original muffler, and also the crankguard. There is a coil in the box and all I can figure this engine needs to run is some fresh gas, a battery, and possibly your favorite cold beverage! Although I haven’t tried to run it, a previous owner ran it several years ago and it ran great. This is a great engine to add to your early hit and miss gas engine display or John Deere machinery collection. The pictures tell the story. You won’t be disappointed in any way! I have a 1hp Root Vandervoort Triumph line hit miss gas engine. It has a very nice older restoration. It does have some small chipping to the paint and some under coating showing through. It is a beautiful running engine. Does have reproduction brass governor weights but I think they add to the look of the engine. Only Crack, Break, weld I have found is an old repair to the rocker arm stand. These don’t come up near as often as their larger counterparts. It is missing the original crank guard but has original muffler. Nice striping and decals. Don’t miss your chance to own one of these little engines. Great size for showing. Here is what I will describe as the best original condition 1 HP R&V (Root and Vandervoort) antique hit and miss engine that I have personally seen. It is 100% complete and all original with exception of the reproduction crank guard. There are NO repairs, brakes or welds of any kind. There is at least 50% original paint on the engine and that is being very conservative! This engine has awesome compression with no blow by and runs just as good as it looks. There are NO apologies with this one. You can mount it on a set of skids or a set of trucks if you like or put it in the back of your truck as is and take it to a show and run it all day. I just cannot emphasize enough just how nice this engine is. This is also the more desirable 1 HP with the flyball governor and does not “clunk” wile it is running. Very hard to find original root and vandervoort antique gas engine magneto that actually mounts upside down on the motor. Mag looks good and may have been rebuilt recently but i have not tested it in a motor. One spring is missing but I think everything else is there, please review pictures for size and condition. Mag bracket has been welded but looks very good and is usable. A really neat mag and bracket. Up for sale is a 6hp R&V engine. Overall good shape with just a few things I saw. Head does have a crack. Rocker has been welded. Oiler is missing glass. One of the governor weights is missing a little piece that rides against the collar. That is all I see for CBW. Governor body looks good. Has pulley and original crank guard. I have had this engine running by squirting gas in the carb. I do not have a muffler for it. Has some original paint. Good engine to add to your collection or bring to the shows. If you have any other questions please ask. I will put on pallet. I can load onto or into truck or trailer. Can stay here for a reasonable amount of time as long as it is paid for.
