1/3 Scale Hired Man hit and miss model gas engine

A newly made Associated Hired Man Engine. Relisted after replacing a faulty cylinder casting, all is good and runs great. This engine is 1/3 scale, with a solid state ignition that is contained in the base, it is powered by 4 AA batteries. This engine is made of cast iron no aluminum anywhere, the crankshaft is high carbon steel for long life, the piston is 1 1/4 in diameter and is also cast iron lapped to the cylinder for a close fit, it has 1 compression ring. All bearings are made from bearing bronze and lubricated via brass grease cups. The valves are Stainless steel as is the gas tank. The tank has an integral check valve. The muffler and fully operational cylinder lubricator are brass. The base is solid black walnut with a satin finish. The spark plug is a 1/4 – 20 plug readily available. EVERYONE ELSE PLEASE ASK FOR QUOTE. This engine will run on regular gasoline but white gas (Coleman camp fuel) is recommended for its easy starting clean burning and low odor. I will include starting and running and lubrication instructions. The flywheels are 6 1/4 in in diameter The base is 12 3/4 x 8 x 2 5/8 inches. The complete engine weighs 20 pounds. This is a very easy starting engine, usually 2 flips of a flywheel has it running. I have been building these engines for over 20 years and this engine displays that level of machine experience. Vintage Scale Model United Air-Cooled Gas Engine. This engine has 6-inch flywheels and is machined from mostly cast iron and brass. It turns over and has compression and spark. It appears to be set up to run on propane although I have not run it. Engine looks to be complete; I don’t see any cracks or damage; there is some play in the crank bushings. Cosmetically: paint is faded and has chips, light surface rust and blemishes from age. (Battery and propane not included). VintageScale Model United Air Cooled Gas Engine. Circa: mid 1970′s. The engine has 6-inch flywheels and is machined from cast iron, brass and zink. It has compression and good spark. Some play in the main crank bearings, it may need new bushings. The engine is setup to run on propane, now that’s pretty handy at the show! It has a bottle hookup, a low pressure regulator? A pressure gauge and. The lines that run directly into the carb. The whole setup fits into the bottom box- including propane, battery and coil. Note: Battery and propane bottle not included. I have no idea if this setup works, this is how I bought it. This engine was made a long time ago, and looks to have been run a lot. It appears to be complete and in over-all good shape. I don’t see any cracks or damage. It does have faded and chipped paint, with surface rust and blemishes and over-all wear that would be expected with age and use. Vintage Scale Model Associated, Johnny Boy Gas Engine. Machined from Paul Breisch castings, circa: mid 1970′s. I was told that it has not been run for 3 or 4 years. The engine has 6-inch flywheels and is machined from mostly cast iron and brass. It has compression and spark at the igniter. It appears that there is a pin or stud missing from the side of the cylinder block, near the igniter, that supports the igniter strike lever. (See the picture with the pencil). Never the less, it is repairable. Note: the igniter still works freely when the engine is turned over by hand. Other than that, the engine looks to be complete and in really good shape. I don’t see any cracks or damage. It does have faded and chipped paint, with some surface rust and blemishes and over-all wear that would be expected with age and use. The coil has some varnish scraped off the bottom. Please review the pictures carefully, since they are also part of the description. If you have a question please don’t hesitate to ask. SCALE MODEL MINITURE Hit and Miss cart completely finished ready for your engine

The cart is finished in OAK and Steel with aluminum wheels, the deck height is 5″, (+/-) and it is approximately 30″ overall length and about 9 wide. The wheelbase is 16 1/2″ long x 11 ” wide, wheels are 4 in diameter and are cast aluminum. This is a cart for that miniature running model engine that you built last year that is just sitting on your shelf looking good, but, not attached to anything! THIS IS A SCALE MODEL, NOT A FULL SIZE CART. THIS LISTING IS FOR THE CART ONLY, NO ENGINE IS INCLUDED IN THIS LISTING! These old engines were heavy, usually a few hundred pounds if you bought a 1 1/2 horsepower engine to well over a thousand pounds for a 7 1/2 horsepower! The solution was a dedicated wagon that the engine could be moved on, a “cart” so to speak. Many engine suppliers furnished carts similar in design to this one, many more farmers figured out how to build their own! This cart is not scaled from any particular design, it is just what looks about right for the purpose intended that is to display your miniture model engine. Wood is pre finished similar to photo with a clear shellac coating, wheels are NOT painted, all iron parts are finished black oxide. This a completely finished miniture cart, we supplied notes on how to install your engine upon it. Two cross members are supplied loose with instructions for fitting to your particular engine. Scale Model Gas Engine Castings Plans Kit antique hit miss steam hot air motor

Note a small lathe & mill are required to machine this engine. The Type D is neatly styled vertical engine with a 1-piece cylinder & base casting & it that was designed to look & be built like something that could have been made years ago. It uses an over-hung flywheel crankshaft that sits inside the four tapering legs of the engine base. This engine uses spark ignition & runs off regular gasoline by using a simple vapor carburetor. It can also be easily set up for other gas or liquid fuels. For a gas engine, it goes together fairly easy & is a neat engine to run. 3 Grey-Iron Castings, (engine base, flywheel & head castings). Detailed Nameplate with Stamped Serial #. Full, computer drawn machining plans with machining notes. A computer CD full of pictures of finished engines, machining set-ups, jigs, etc. There is also an engine manual/owners manual on the CD that can be printed out. This contains notes about adjusting the engine & running it. Note: Screws & nuts & other small hardware for this engine does not amount to much & is not included. There is a parts list with the plans. You will need to have an ignition coil (preferably a buzz coil type or one made for a model engine) & battery to run the engine. Engine Dimensions: 3/4″ Bore, 4-3/4″ diameter flywheel. The finished engine will stand about 10-1/2 tall & will weigh about 9 lbs. Compared to other gas engine kits, this kit is fairly simple since the engine doesnt have any gears, cams, push rods, valves, etc. To machine & line-up. Care should still be taken to machine the few parts this engine does have and a small lathe & mill & standard tools will be needed to machine the castings & make parts for this engine. The base & head were sand cast without a follow board using RMCs own handmade core-less patterns. Because the base casting on the Type D engine is so unique, it has a longer parting line than normal. The castings clean up easily with an air die grinder, carbide burr & files. The one pic shows a couple small spots on the base casting that cosmetically could be touched up if wanted. Note that the base casting has mounting bosses placed conveniently on it, making it ideal for free-lance engine builders to make an engine out of. New Washington, Ohio 44854.
