Orr & Sembower Horizontal Side Crank Steam Engine 5×5 bore & stroke, weight approx. Overall length 46″ width 36″. 20″ Diameter fly wheel, 5″ face, 1 5/8″ crank shaft, 3/4″ Gardner gov. And Lunkenheimer pump lubricator. Engine runs very quiet, no knocks. The head has an early repair – very nice weld job, but could be cleaned up (ground flush). It’s a great example of why we open the petcocks before starting a steam engine. All bearings have lots of shems left so there is room for many hours of use. Nice original cart for possibly a stover but not positive but will make a very nice cart for a small antique stationary gas engine. Up for sale is a really super nice and rare circa 1890 Ames Iron Works stationary steam engine. The engine is rated at 10 horse power. It has a absolutely amazing 2 inch gardener governor. Nothing on the engine is stuck, seized or broken. The engine looks completely original and intact and unmolested! It has a nice large pulley (I believe its 2 foot diameter). It has a tag from General Machinery in Philadelphia which is most likely the place where it was originally installed. I can hold the engine for an extended period of time. To anyone that was wondering: The photos were taken when I had the engine at a local show. That’s the reason for all of the stuff noticeable in the background. This is a really nice original “Baby Lauson” hit and miss gas engine. It was built by the John Lauson Manufacturing Company in New Holstein, Wisconsin. It is the smallest of the engines that they built and an extremely hard to find size. It is the earlier version of their engines being spark plug fired and a “heavy pattern” design. It is in great original condition as can be seen. It has lots of original paint and pinstriping on it yet. It does have a few flaws like the brazed head (which looks worse than it probably actually). The fuel mixer is not original but a retrofit early Associated mixer which does the job. There is an authentic reproduction cast iron muffler that needs to be machined that goes along with the sale. This engine is the 1 horsepower size but is a little later after the company rerated them to 1 1/2hp. It has very heavy flywheels on it and has good compression. It has some general overall wear consistent with an engine of this vintage but nothing real excessive. I’ve never run the engine but a previous owner showed it some 20 years ago. It shouldn’t take much to make noise with it again. It will most likely be an upgrade for your engine and it would be a fine addition to any collection of nice original engines! Remember, they’re only original once! It’s been several years since a Baby Lauson was for sale and it wasn’t a nice original like this one so don’t miss your chance. Very nice side crank bottle steam engine , older restoration, runs very smooth nothing broken bent or repaired , except the governor looks a little repaired or pieced together it is a one of a kind, but works well, can’t remember where it came from. The engine has no name plate, plate holes or any id. But i think it is a james beggs engine or at least design.
