This is a VERY hard to find original Bosch FU4 4-cylinder base mount magneto. It was used on some of the Hart Parr tractors and portable engines and probably had other 4-cylinder applications like Crossmotor Case tractors and some early cars and trucks. It is in great shape with no cracks, breaks, or repairs that I can see or know of. It is clockwise rotation and the impulse works as it should. It turns over very nicely and seems to have very little wear in the bearings or the impulse. Everything seems to work as it should. It has good magnetism and puts out a nice blue spark on three of the wires but not on the fourth one. It is likely a bad wire that needs to be replaced which should be pretty straightforward. Everything inside the points cover looks to be in great shape. It mounts on a 2 inch square bolt pattern and the mounting threads are in great shape in three of the holes but kind of weak in one of the holes which could easily be repaired with a helicoil type repair. These original FU4 magnetos are almost impossible to find in the wild or even at swap meets so if you’ve been looking for one for an authentic restoration here’s a really nice one.
